ADMIN - I moved a bunch of discussion in the want to buy - sorry Sergio as now it looks like you started this.

Never take a "fake". A fake is only a fake and worthless to any average collector.
Most of them are, but that doesn't mean that they all are.

Want one for a conversation piece at the range when I'm shooting it.

None of the old coots I shoot with would be able to see it!

Roadster,

May be then you should take along a "Danzig" fake as well.

Respectfully,

I am not convinced that all of them are fakes, as long as they are in the 1913-17 era, with one certain style of stamp.

You might want to extend your date range a bit. This one is mine and I would bet my last farthing it is authentic.

Cheapest option. Buy an Erfurt and a death head die.
It will be just as 'original' as the majority of them.

And which "style" of stamp would that be?

My cheap [$.02] opinion would be the one pictured by Fred Datig in his 1955 edition of 'The Luger Pistol", published well before the current crop of claims of fakes by certain individuals...

Which reminds me...What's Albert been up to lately???

Datig was there when they faked them in the 50s.

Datig was probably there when the Freikorps stamped the first one...

If that is all it takes, then the one I have is original(same features as on p-150); yippee! the value just went up!

However, if one reads what Still and Shad wrote on pp.126 and 127;
he does not validate any of these lugers as definitively "original", but
"a subject of hot debate among collectors".

Since these are considered faked, shooter class, non collectible Lugers, I'm only willing to pay the reasonable "shooter grade" price that is quoted in this forum in many posts. The Totenkopf stamp itself being a fake, should not add anything to the value, on the contrary it should detract, correct? Currently when selling, the Luger is "collector grade" with the corresponding premium price, and when buying, the Luger is a faked shooter, again with the corresponding lowered price. It can't be both gentlemen, either these Totenkopfs are fakes, or they are rarities, pick one.

This might be an option if you want to cross into the realm of Third Reich Death Heads.

Someone messed up a nice looking P08 there.

Found a commercial example in the old world. Refinished, so again, anyone could have messed with it.
