Hi Russ, Glad you liked the Navy. The marking on the grip is WK7724.I don,t know if this number was assigned to an individual or to a unit? Anyway thanks for looking and have a nice Memorial Day weekend. Later Danny

Danny, the marking is probably WK.77.24. If so it represents the 24th pistol of some unit no.77 at the dockyards at Kiel, Germany.

Herb,
I have never seen a Navy property mark with a WK (or WW)xx.xx number. From what limited information I have, the Navy Luger property numbers are not separated by periods and are not any indication of a specific unit of issue. The "xx.xx" format indicating unit and weapon number is an Army convention as far as I know. Do you know of any Naval Lugers marked with a "xx.xx" format?

Herb and Ron,

Over the past several years, I have undertaken an extensive collection and study of Navy property markings. Database contains upwards of 600 entries. There are zero entries with a period or comma between digits. As was stated, such markings were an Army convention, NOT Navy. Simply stated, WK 7724 translates to weapon 7724 issued by Werft Kiel, nothing more or less.

The whole field of property numbering is full of contradictions, duplications and seemingly impossible occurrances. I wrote a post about this subject here some years ago.
