G Date Shooter
This ratty looking G date on another frame is the latest project. I just finished the bluing yesterday, hope to have after pictures by Sunday. Here is what I started with. Top needed lapping to bottom, replace toggle pin, take of CHROME (not nickel) and reblue/fireblue/straw.

I can't wait to see pictures of the end result of this project. Thor's magic is always awe inspiring, especially when compared to the "before" pics.

Now that I've seen pictures of the sow's ear, I can't wait to see the silk purse that emerges. Will Thor prove Willie Shakespear wrong? I'm betting on it!

Here is the finished Luger, much different that the earlier one, and it works much smoother now!

Ted, I'm truly impressed! What is your secret for eliminating the severe pitting on the left side of the frame? Is the metal welded up and then taken back down? The matching of the bluing suggests that the metal is all the same and I'd think welding would be difficult to match to the original steel. How do you do it?

Ted,
I own 3 of your (re)creations and marvel at the workmanship every time I look at them. You are an artist. EVEN IF YOU TOLD US, I doubt any casual metalsmith could even come close to duplicating your work. Come on, spill the beans... How'd ya do it.

Come on, Ted. Tell us the truth; you found a new Luger for that "finished" picture.
Just kidding. Great job, as usual. I have 4 of Ted's masterpieces, and they are all just this beautiful. Regards, Luke

Thor,
That is an incredible transformation! This is why this is my first stop on this forum. Pete, I wouldn't bet against Thor being able to refinish even that chunk of rust!

I tell you Mr Gale Morgan can and has restored a gun like that! Read "1300 Grams of Rust" sometime if you have an old Gun Collectors Book! A masterful restoration of a Swiss Cheesy BroomHandle Mauser C96. Now that guy is REALLY good! I think Mr John Martz is also in that class, both of those guys are GUNWIZARDS of the first order. I am just a beginning Magicians apprentice compare to them. They are two of the most talented individuals I know of! They kind of remind me of McGiver, they could make a Luger Carbine from a postage stamp!!!
