Rare Replacement E/37 Luger Magazine?

I'm thinking this is a very rare replacement magazine from 1940. Has anyone else seen many of these? I have only seen one other one from another collector.

Tom, Just noticed your post. I have a similar replacement E/37 Magazine; the E/37 is on the toe of the magazine and there is only a 'fxo' and P.08 (right side up) on the left side of the magazine. Respects, Mike

Perhaps an inspector conditioned by working at another factory, came to the Schmeisser plant on assignment, and applied the die to the place he was used to using for a few days until "corrected" to the other location? g

I recall reading that Haenel switched from the '122' to 'FXO' code on their magazines mid 1941.

Did the Heereswaffenamt order dated 01/01/1940, requiring the marking of pistol receivers with ‘P08’ and 'P38', also apply to magazines?

Just my curiosity, why the '122' marked magazine is not marked with 'P08', but the 'FXO' version was.

Hi,

I could be very wrong here, but the bottom of that mag. looks like its original serial number was "shaved" off.

The placement of the E/37 stamp moved around in early 1940, so it being both at the top and at the mid-line of these bottoms is correct. See pics. I believe these bottoms with the E/37 stamps only occurred in 1940 on 122 magazines. So mostly likely Thunderbolts bottom was switched from a 122 to an fxo sometime in it's life.
Seiger, if you are referring to my magazine there is no evidence of it ever having a serial number. Furthermore, I purchased it with a holster and Luger straight from the family of the vet that brought it back so it has not been messed with post war.

The originally posted magazine looks OK to me. It shows characteristics I'd expect of the factory in the way the base is finished. Those usually disappear when the magazine is renumbered, and this one doesn't show it.
