Post The Luger Pistol by Fred A.Datig 1962

John

I bought this book after my first tour in SEA and I got it out the other day and I found alot of mistakes? Has there been a up date to this book? or is there a better Ref. book out there.

Thanks Much Ron Welch

Hello Ron!

Yes, it is an older book, same with Jone's book. I wouldn't be without them, because they are good books, but they are about 40 years old, so many mistakes have been unearthed during that time period.

I have both, plus many others, the best ones are by Jan Still, they are well researched and encompass many era's. You might want to buy one at a time, or all, Weimar Lugers is out of print and is my favorite, another out of print is called Imperial Lugers. Third Reich Lugers and Axis Pistols were recently reprinted so are available.

While another classic is Lugers at Random, and has many good pictures. Other authors include Walters, Reed and a couple of more. They all have interesting facts and stories.

So it depends on what you want to learn and what era.

THanks Much,I'll try to find them. I'm trying to get more info on some of my lugers that seem a little odd and now that i'm about to retire I'll have more time to research.

Thanks Much Ron Welch

Ron,

To add what Ed has suggested : I would also recommend John Walter's "The Luger Book". It is written in encyclopedia format which makes finding a specific reference or topic very easy.

Walter (a European) is at many times in disagreement with the well-known American luger authors, so it is great to get a dissenting opinion...

Finally; if you have interest in Swiss luger, Vittorio Bobba' book is a very good investment (usually around $ 100.00).

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Could not agree more with the steamed tac foley; a major divide exists amongst those who inhabit Great Britain, Ireland and the Mainland of Europe and that seems to be the relative degree of Weasel-like behavior exhibited by the people and their humorous attempts at governance.
Having spent many years living in Germany and traveling through the other countries of Europe, it never ceased to amaze me at the comic opera nature of some countries' officials and their peculiar notions of what was right and wrong. I think the most vexing observation I made along these lines after having lived there for 13 years over 3 decades was that the more insignificant the country was in the grander scheme of the world, the more arrogant and asenine were the petty officials.
My contribution to world peace and mutual understanding.
Tom A.
For more on this subject, I recommend you read John Cleese's excellent piece on the Axis of Not So Evil that is floating around on the net.

TAC,

My apologies for such ignorance...I guess I am a naturalized Yank...after all.

Thanks for letting me know where Mr. Walter calls home...
