1915 DWM with 6. Div. 41. marking
Hello members, thanks for being here. I'm new to the Luger collection area and looking for some info about my 1915 DWM. My frame is numbered 8223a and on the grip is written 6. Div. 41.
Any ideas about the meaning of 6. Div. 41.? Possible to get an info about the age of the frame by this numbers? Thanks for your help. Sven |

Believe unit marking of 6. Div. 41." is 6th Division (staff), waffen #41.
Interesting marking "X'ed" out of "6th Dragoon (staff), waffen #41. Suspect because it was the same waffen number to both unit marks, the "X'ed" marking was an error and then corrected to the 6th Division. As far as your question, "Possible to get an info about the age of the frame by this numbers?", frame #8223a, suggests that your Luger was produced in early 1915. More specifically, although you do not indicate whether your Luger is manufactured by Erfurt or DWM, Still reports that there are no known authentic examples of 1915 Erfurts so I assume yours is a DWM? And, also because Still reports that DWM manufactured 105,000 Lugers marked with the 1915 Chamber Date, is my basis for indicating an early 1915 date. Don't believe you can narrow when your Luger was produced any closer than this. |

You don't mention that the frame and receiver numbers match or not.
If they do not match, it is not possible to tell which year it was made, as most all years went past the "a" suffix. I would suggest that your grip marking dates to early Reichsheer(Weimar) era, with 6.D.41 being a provisional marking and the 6.Div.41 being the final form authorized for the 6th Division staff. Maybe Keoki will add his assessment.

Thanks for your reply. My Luger is a mismatching DWM 1915 Artillery. The upper is matching # 3776 and the frame is # 8223a (also matching). Seems somebody added both together in the past to get a good shooter...
