Yup,that is Heinrich Himmler Reichsführer of the SS.
I notice he has a limp wrist-ed shooting stance.

I think the gent? on the left is SS General Sep Dietrich.

Interesting pic,thanks.

That can't be Himmler, I saw his luger for sale and it was chrome with pearl grips. Thats definatly not it in the picture.

The stance was a typical shooting stance of the time. Interesting that Himmler was left handed. He was probably visitng an SS training camp at the time. Definetly not Sepp Dietrich, who was more pug faced and sported a small moustache.

I wonder if they enjoy meeting O.B.Laden in Hell.
If this is inappropriate, I'm sorry....

I have seen this photo before and seen paper copies of it sold on ebay.... I have never heard of a Luger for sale that was reported to be Himmler's ... since he took his own life, I would guess that who ever cleaned up after him took possession of it... It would be a valuable collectible if there were bonafide provenance...

John, Idoubt this or any other Luger belonged to Himmler. It was likely a borrowed range weapon. These High Party Officials were fond of much smaller pistols.

Alanint
You are correct!
That stern faced man is actually Josef "Sepp" Kiermann. He was Himmler's personal bodyguard.
Here is another pic on th same day, with a little better view of the luger.

I remember a recent thread with a gold plated Walther PPK engraved with Himmlers name ,that was supposed to have been owned by him. Wasn't it for sale?

Odd that he wears his watch on the left arm and shoots left handed.

I noticed that too, and the way the belt buckle is turned also indicates that he was right handed. Could be that he's just posing to get a nicer picture.

Would a left-eye shooter shoot a pistol left handed or simply crank their head over a bit further to the right and shoot with their strong arm?
We deal with this in high school trap all the time, but options are limited with the long guns.

Well, I'm left handed and both shoot with my left hand and wear a watch on the left wrist. My belt buckle, however, is worn lefty. You wonder what happened with some of these well placed but lesser thugs after the war? Can you imagine "Himmler's personal bodyguard" on your resume?
Sadly, they all seemed to find takers for their particular talents.

Hmmmn?!?!? ...Would he simply be practicing left handed shooting for the possibility of being prepared in case of an injury to his right hand/arm??? Could the photo have been propaganda to show he was ever so capable in shooting with both hands???

(A good thought for all of us, it is a good practice to always be prepared regardless of who you are.)

Or he thought that it was a good idea to emulate his boss. Imitation is supposed to be the "sincerest" form of flattery.

Or maybe they were actually scoring and he had to shoot left handed as a handicap to his boss who was naturally left handed. Heavens forbid that he would outscore Himmler.

Guys, this was the Nazi era where everyone lived in fear of "offending" someone who was in power. The Nazi era was only surpassed in this fear and paranoia by the Stalinist era in the Soviet Union.

I wear my watch on the left wrist(face inside wrist)and shoot left handed. I shoot long guns right handed. Seems perfectly natural to me..

Or it could just be the photographer saying: "Hey, hold the gun in your left hand instead, it will look better from this angle".

Who knows, could be a combination of everything said in this thread. The bottom line is that Himmler carried an HSc, a guy tried to sell it to me just a couple of months ago at a show. I passed and told him to call me when he has found Hitler's PPK.
