Default My First Luger

I have an opportunity to purchase my first Luger. I am purchasing this from a friend who inherited it. It is a WWII bringback.

It is in about 70-75% condition and appears to have all matching parts, except for the firing pin assembly, which is missing.

It is marked 1935 S/42 on top and the serial number range is in the 300's.

The bore is in good shape and the magazine matches also, and has the wooden finger grip on the bottom. It also comes with a period holster in fair shapewith nazi markings. Although thre is no serial number evident on the holster.

Being this is my first purchase and will be purchasing it from a friend, I don't want to undervalue it.

Any ideas of what it's value is? If needed I can post pictures.

Thanks

Hi Vince,

Welcome to the forum. Yes, photos are needed to help evaluate it. Good clear shots of markings, grip straps(front and rear), full views of both sides and the top. Also the holster front (flap open and closed) and back.

Even then it's difficult to be exact, but I'm sure someone can give you a fair estimate.

Ron

1935 is marked on the reciever on the barrel ring. Where the barrel threads on the receiver.

I will post some pics later tonight. Thanks for all the quick responses.

Sorry guys. Yes it is a 1936 date. I went by the picture instead of the gun. The picture sure does look like 1935 though. What do you expect from a newby?

Nice catch PL, Yes the receiver should be marked "G" if it were a 1935... but with the date if 1936...

I had to study the out of focus photo for quite some time till it was clear that the date was indeed 1936...

VINSPE, Welcome to the Lugerforum... and you can get any missing parts from several sources... Lugerdoc (a member here named Tom Heller) is one, ebay would be another possibility.

Please forgive the quality of the photos, close ups were tough. So, based on condition and markings, what is a ballpark figure I should offer? And thanks again for all your input!

The holster could add little to several hundred dollars to this deal depending on condition and markings. Do you have any closeups of it?

I will try to get some better photos of the holster from my friend also. He caught the markings of the holster, but not the actual holster.

But as it looks now, what do you think a fair value for the pistol alone is? Thanks!

Ballpark it at $700 to $1000... much better photos required for a better guess... the low end is because of the 70-75% finish..., but overall it looks like it could be a nice rig... Be sure to post good photos of the holster and any accessories...
