Post How many byf 41s were made in 1942?

From long-ago research and questions posed on the old luger forum, I had always understood that my 41 byf -- SN 960a, with dual 135 proofs -- was made in November/December 1941.

In two recent posts below, however, there are comments that an earlier gun than mine -- SN 9619 no suffix -- was made in January 1942 with a leftover 41 receiver.

So when was mine made? (Had to have been before 1955, 'cause that's when my brother-in-law bought it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> )

Thumbs up

Tony, since they were kicking them out at about 10,000 Lugers per month, I would say yours was completed in Jan 1942, as well

The earliest recorded double E/135 is S/N about 8500 no suffix and the latest is about 1000b.

My guess is that about 4000, 1941 frames were used in pistols completed in 1942. They were intermixed with 1942 frames!

Thanks for the info, Frank!

That's one of the great things about this forum: While so many posts concern the more rare and esoteric models (and rightly so), there's still a lot of great info surfacing about the more common editions.

Now I'm gonna have to schedule ANOTHER birthday range session for this baby, LOL!

I have recorded 42-byf number 597 (no suffix) with SE-135 SE-135 acceptance marks and as normal test proof 3. These pistols started in the no suffix and ended in the early - n - block Maybe 25000 in the ns, a and b block (mixed with 41-byf pistols) and 10,000 each in c, d, e, f, g, h, i, k, l, ,m and a few in the - n - block. How many do you come up with?
Thanks
H
