Default mis matched mag

how much does it hurt the collectability of a luger that has a mis-matched serial on the mag,but is a period replacement, with the rest of the piece being matched, including the grips

It is expected that you will have a mismatched magazine. To find a matched magazine on your gun is probably a 25% value rise, while it "could" be 50% for two matched mags, or at least that is what folks say,

thats great news Ed,thanks for the fast response,i have my second about half paid for,a 1917 Erfurt in alot better condition than my 42 code, but both have mismatched mags, but both are period, the 42 has the correct WaA code on it,and the Erfurt has the wood bottom

i figured with the mag being a constant removable part it would stand to reason that the mag being mismatched would be a common thing, but wasnt sure how common, and how much it would affect its collectability

good luck on your book,i look forward to reading it when finished

Thanks Graham and I should be done with it by spring.

Mny reasons why mags don't match, one could be that to US GI's, the 1911A1 wasn't matched that way, so it was just a magazine to them...

Also have heard more than once and seen in pictures, german soldier walked up to a pile, dropped pistol in one place, mag in another pile, holsters in another...

And as you said, in battle or war time environment, if a mag went bad, then it was just replaced...

its kinda common on Enfield rifles as well, even though techniclly its a semi removable mag, just the fact that it is removable easilly the earlier numbered ones are commonly mismatched

that first Luger got a hold of me,actually i think it hit when i got the P38,its a speerwerk but all matched late war,but it was a easy jump from there to the Luger

i already had a fancy for the German weapons, mostly K98's,and i have a real nice original G43 with the original ZF4 scope

but getting the Luger,a piece i sorta thought "maybe one day" has kinda made me rethink the direction i want to take my collection,im starting off by selling my refurb Mosins,i quickly lost interest in them anyway,i am keeping my Finns, and non rearsenaled ones though

it gets a little tougher to decide where to trim the fat from there though, lol

thanks again,Dave
