Default Confused

Hello,

My computer stupidity comes out ever so often. Tonight I tried to make a post with images. When I pasted the URL it was pasted with the [IMG] and {/IMG] around it. When I previewed the post there was no URL shown. After three tries I removed the IMG brackets and left just the URL. I posted that and the URL's that were posted were active links to the images. I viewed the links and the images were there. Later I went back and the images were present in the post? How did the links get changed to the images?

Here is how I post an image:

First I do a carriage return where the image is going to be.

I upload the photo.

I copy the URL.

I click on the little image box IMG and the window opens for the URL.

I paste the URL.

I click OK.

The URL with the [IMG] brackets shows in the post.

When I preview the post the URL's are not there.

Where am I going wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should be doing it right. (I changed it back to IMG), you can always manually use the lower right icon and edit your own posting, and change the url to img.

Hi TT..!

As Ed says - nothing has changed back here?? that being said - did you upgrade our browser recently?? If so - be sure that the setting allowed "images to be viewed" from this website in your settings...

Also - when you use the [IMG] command - be certain that there are no spaces between the IMG] declarations and the URL..!

Let us know if that works!!

Best to you,

John D.

Hello John D.,

And a Happy belated Birthday to you. May you have double that many more.

Yes, I did recently upgrade to IE 7.0 but I have had no problem viewing other images.

I will check my settings as you mentioned if I can find them.

Sometimes I have cockpit problems with these computers when my eye lids
go to drooping!!

Thank you for your help,
Chester

Addendum?--John D., I can see the images this morning. I think it may be because Ed fixed them.

Chester,

Might just be a typo, but did you manually enter {/IMG]? If so you used the wrong bracket { instead of [.

Hello Ron,

Yes, that was a typo error on my part. More of those drooping eye lids and stumbling fingers.

Thanks,
Chester

Another Question,

When you "Preview" a post with images does the URL's or images show in the preview before posting?

When I view my post it is funny because sometimes the images are there and then there gone the next time and then they come back. I wonder if it is my slow connection at 24Kbps and I'm just not giving the computer time to load them!

I have the fastest computer in the world on a dialup connection. Ha

Update Edit: I have found when the images are not showing if I refresh the page one of the four images shows up!

Thanks Again,
Chester

Hi TT!!!

Just home from work, so let's see if I can't catch up..

OK - in "preview" - only the links will show...

As well - if you have a slow dial-up connection (ummm - you use DIAL-UP??!!! What the heck is that??!!!) - only the images that can load before your dial-up connection settings are set, and those stored in your CACHE will show.. "New" images will time out loading before displaying....

OK - try this.....

In a post - when an image does NOT show - I want you to RIGHT CLICK and choose to show it/open it in a separate window.... Let me know if that works, OK???

Finally - THANK YOU for your belated "Happy Birthday" note - you were the first and last to notice!!! (LOLOL!!! I'm reading the thread in the Members Forum ) Yea - I turned 50 yesterday.... Amazing how old I am....

Hello John D.,

I don't want to waste your time with my problem, but let me tell you the following:

When I view my post the one of following is what I see:

1.) In the space where the photos are supposed to be it is totally blank.
2.) The first photos is visible.
3.) All four photos are visible.

These are the three different conditions I see when I view my post. I guess everybody else is seeing the photos because no one has said anything.

I am on AOL so the might have something to do with it!

Thanks,
Chester

Try this... sign on to the internet using your internet provider (AOL), and then minimize that bastard AOL browser, and open the Lugerforum using either Internet Explorer or Firefox browser, and I will bet your problem disappears... Hopefully, since the recent change in AOL, they will not further develop their crippled browser and will make sure their web pages are compatible with industry standards instead of their proprietary second rate browser. ( Now, maybe I can tell you how I really feel about AOL )

Seriously Chester... try what I suggested and I think your problems will be gone. AOL's browser is probably the culprit.

Hello John,

You are probably right about the AOL browser. In the AOL settings for their browser there is an option for selecting AOL TopSpeed browsing. WOW I disabled this feature and now seem to be able to view all images. My computer is very slow on the dialup connection I have and I just have to live with that for right now.

I had tried what you suggested but I seemed to have got the same result on IE 7.0 as I did with AOL? It may have been it was due to AOL being my default browser.

In any event I appreciated your response and help.

From some of your past comments over the years I already had an understanding that AOL was not one of your favorite internet providers!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays,
Chester
