I think what you are seeing is an illusion caused by the white table in the background. It makes it seem as if there is a raised piece of metal in the grip frame's interior.

Mike et al, Look closely at the above photo showing the bottom of the frame (left side of mag well) viewed from the prospective of a mag being inserted and you'll see an extra light colored piece of metal in there. TH

Tom,
I think you are seeing the tip of his finger. If you are veiwing it on Web TV, you may be missing a lot of details.

Sorry no extra metal just the terrible, setting, lighting and cell phone I had to use to take the pictures.

Also got help from the magazine and grip guru and took it all the way down myself and cleaned it.

Grips really cleaned up and do not have that broken safety lever area on the wood and the magazine seemed to clean up to the level of the grips so might just keep it where its at for now.

I've been using Corrosion X on the metal until I get a chance to try Eezox but all the rust seemed to clean up with just corrosion x and a little CLP so no more red spots.

Thank you for the info on the pistol as well, I was not sure it would be that old so I'm really impressed by its condition now.

Now I'm just hoping to shoot it a few times around xmas time with family before it gets another round of protectant before being put in the safe.

I am going to try and add photos of the luger after I wiped it down, pretty much all off the red dusty junk wiped off.

Will most likely be up for sale locally soon too. Anybody know if the value of this type of luger would make it something to hold onto?

As you can see in the bad photos, just a wipe down and the gun looks and operates very smoothly.

Have not fired it yet, and probably will not do so as I am currently going to try and sell it locally to a shop or possibly on an online auction site.

Hopefully it stays original if I do make a sale.

That's a good looking gun I wouldn't touch it with anything beyond oil and a rag! If it were mine I'd soak it in Ballistol oil and use a brand new micro fiber towel on it as to not damage any of the original finish.

Wish mine looked that good.

I get it at a local gun shop they swear by it and it is good stuff.

Hey, I just noticed something in the pics...in the second one, which shows the left side of the pistol with grips removed, mag inserted. There is no center web on the mag well on this side! I've only seen this before on cartridge counter guns, in which case the web needed to be gone in order for the indicator on the mag to work. What's up with this? Is there evidence remaining on the frame that the web was cut out?

My big question is what might Ballistol do to the patina on old Lugers - anyone already try it? I wouldn't want to try it until it is proven and we know what to expect. I'm game to try it; but on new guns and I like what they advertise for black powder. I choose to go slowly on my lugers; at this time.

I ended up only wiping mine down with a preserver, no cleaners or tools etc.

I'm currently trying to setup an online auction to sell it unless someone here is interested.

Had it appraised between 2,400 and 3,000 so I figure I can sell quickly at about 80 to 90% of the lower end of the value.

Is this a better a picture? It is of the other side.
