1914 commercial ?

I ran into a luger today and wondered if I was right in my thinking. It was a DWM with all matching numbers except the toggle and fireing pin which were the same number. All other parts were matched to a different set of numbers, but all the same number. Germany was stamped on the take down lever. The barrel was same number as all the other lower parts. The chamber was dates very faintl 1914 date, almost like it was buffed off. The guy was very sure it was a 30 luger caliber. My question is were all exported luger in this shape made to 30 luger? Was that a Versailles treaty requirement? It almost looked as if the barrel didn't match the rest of the gun in looks, but was numbered right. Were barrels switched like that for export. Thanks in advance for any answers.

Dave, A 1914 commerical luger will not have a chamber date. Sounds like a rebarrelled, reblued, mismatched shooter. TH

I know the chamber dates aren't commercials, but where it was stamped Germany (which was for export, right) and the 1914 date nearly buffed out, did they had to change barrels to 30 luger cal in order for it to be exported in the 20's? The barrel was numbered to the gun other than toggle. The guy was sure it was a 30 luger cal.

Dave, I've seen many WW1 military PO8s and LPO8 that were imported into the US (Germany marked or "Made in Germany" after 1922) that still had their original chamber date and orig matching 9mm barrel. I believe that the Versailes Tready restiction, only applied to new production or factory reworked lugers and not to the export of WW1 military surplus. Even on the new ones, the importers at the time, Stoeger & Pacific Arms, would change the barrels to 9mm in lenghts up to 22 inches, for an addition charge. TH
