Done deal on Artillery & Standard 1915

Thanks to all for your imput on the afore mentioned guns. It helped me greatly.

Here's the final deal:

-1915 DWM, all matching, except mag, 4" bbl, 98% original blue, 90%-95% straw, perfect bore

And

-1917 DWM Arty, matching but for 4 parts, 85-90% original finish, shiney bore, micro adjustable rear sight,

both for $2000. Now I have to have my fire sale to keep from dipping into savings.

I know. The nice thing is he's a friend of mine and I've given him honest values for both guns. He's had them for 20-30 years and feels he's still getting a good return on his money while giving me a good deal.

I picked up the guns last night and will send photos of them, and the Arty I got Tuesday, later today or tomorrow. All they need is a little cleaning and linseed oil on the stocks.

Here's some photos of the 1917 British import marked Arty I got 2 days ago. This one is the one with 4 non-matching numbers. Bore is like new and it is VERY accurate. I paid the $1200 my friend wanted but I don't regret a dime of it.

I forgot to ask, can anyone tell me what this mark is? Is it a British proof mark? All the major parts of the gun have this mark.

It is a British proof mark. The circle around the letter indicates a foreign made weapon.

The trigger plate on this artillery has no marking unless it is on the bottom as commercial units were marked.

However, the peculiar thing here is that the raised rectangle on the left side of the trigger plate goes all the way to the top. Is this a Sarco type repro?

The trigger plate and lever are both marked, CN+ on the back side. I can find no other markings. My friend had this gun for at least 20 years and this is how he received it. Here's some views.

My guess is that the trigger side plate might be from a 1929 W+F Bern luger. The width of your "vertical bar" on the side plate looks wide, wider than the ones the Swiss used on the 06/1924 W+F Bern, 3rd. variation.

In the Bobba Swiss Luger book, look at page 187...
I have scanned a part of the photo page, if you do not have this book....

From J. Walter's book, The Luger Book on page 90; "CV" stands for "Chrom-Nickel-Stahl" (i.e. made of chrome nickel steel) used on Swiss Bern lugers.

I think your photos show that your Arty may have -97 as the last of its serial numbers.

If true and you are looking for wooden grips with "97", there is a pair on auction :

This would not be factory-original, and would be what I call "forced matching"...

Thanks, you are correct about my serial number. The grips on mine do match. I tried to bid on the ones on e-bay just to have some extras but at $30 I was still outbid by another. At that price mine are good enough. Besides, I just ordered a pair of new ones from CDNN so I don't goof up the originals.
