Post Forum Upgrade......

Just a quick note that the upgrade to this Forum is coming along - albeit a tad slowly. However, after spending the weekend coding the next drop - I'm getting a little excited about the features... Many of them are very new to any Forum software - such as customizing which areas you'd like to see - and the Forum will remember those settings, the ability to "manage" any of your attachments - from ALL your posts, the ability to change the "look and feel" of the color scheme on the fly - to have the Forum look the way YOU want, the ability to access your Control Panel Settings - and there are a lot, from a menu, a quick links Menu using DHTML, seeing "New Posts" since your last visit - from any Forum, Spellcheck, a "Pop-Up" that let's you know you have a Private Message, attaching 10 - 15 attachments per post, etc....... It's a long list of new features - so I hope you enjoy.....

Anyway - it is still sitting on my workstation - but , if you want to take a quick look before tomorrow and I take it down - feel free to cruise on by and try some test posts.....

Further - my thanks to those who have sent donations, Holiday Cards and you words of support and encourgement - they are more appreciated then many realize.....

My Best to all!

Hello John D.,

You have really out-done yourself this time ...WOW!!! What an updgrade !!! Cannot wait for your new efforts to come on-line...

Hopefully, this updgrade will break the "Armstrong" photo-uploading barrier... (Sorry, Tom...I could not resist...)

Regards,

Pete...

Hey Pete..!

My thanks... When it happens - it will take a few hours to import and then re-program the new site. During that time - folks will get an "off-line" note when they Log in - asking them to wait for a bit.

However - I'm still having a problem with importing the Private Messges from this Forum to the New format. All the posts work, users names, number of posts, overall post counts - etc. For that - if folks have a LOT OF PMs they would like to save, I'll ask that they "copy & paste" them into a text file over the next few days - just in case.....

My best to you Pete - and thanks for the comments and support!

Hey Pete..!!!

Actually - yes.. It's still running on my workstation, and I hacked the vBulletin Release Candidate 2. Right now - they are on RC3 with RC4 expected out tomorrow. What all that means - is I'll probably re-hack RC4, as it's the last Release Candidate before production - so any work I do shouldn't be lost (well - I can hope anyway !!! )

Now - when I do this changeover - I'm also installing a dedicated server and a dedicated IP address - so, my thinking is when I'm set, it's probably best to make the change on a Friday night/early AM (like 2 AM my time) - so that Saturday - everyone should be able to get to the new site by mid-day at the latest (as all the DNS records should have propogated by then).

Soooo - yep - it's still underway - and coming. But - to do this right, I'll also want to let folks know the new URL and IPs in advance - so there isn't any interruption in the service to the Forum.....

Thanks for asking!!!!
