oil changes aren't very hard to do yourself....check your vehicle manuals for the correct products.....

layoff the ammo purchases.....

fill up the second car gas tank and park it....use one car....

the panic will start soon....beat 'em to the service station and grocery store......

anybody over 60 has done this before.....

All those electric vehicles, 'they say', can go 400 miles before recharging. Like cirelaw said, how long to recharge? Ford even claims their pickup can run your household! Really?? Curious people want to know! BTW, I won't ever buy an electric vehicle, even my lawn care equipment is gas powered!

I bought an 80 volt electric chain saw and it's one of the best saws I have ever owned. I pulled my shoulder out of it's socket for the last time! I gave away both of my gas saws. No noise, no smoke and it saws strong for 45 minutes to an hour. I only saw oak. Takes only 30 minutes for a full charge. Set it down for a few min. and it's instant off, instant on. I will NEVER go back to a gas saw.

But a car is different than a chainsaw.

Well, number 1 fuel oil here in Fairbanks, Alaska, (the most common heating fuel used here), jumped 30 cents a gallon over the weekend, from 2.99 to 3.29 a gallon. 10% up. Gasoline has increased from 3.79 to 4.49 a gallon average around here over about the past week.
Does it bother me? Sure. Is there anything I can really do about it? No, not really.
So far it hasn't made me reconsider my new Corvette that'll be delivered in about 60 days hence.

They are thinking about this all wrong. Retrofit all the roadways with electric strips and make cars like the old slot cars. Hell you don't even have to steer most of the time!

How about just improving the existing crappy rail service ? Its pretty good in the NE, but horrible in the rest of the country. Lumbering, slow, uncomfortable and often interrupted by a break-down and getting put on a bus to complete the trip. A visit to Europe really makes me wonder what's wrong with our country's priorities.

Most of Texas rails are privately owned, making Amtrak forced to pull over when freight comes through late or off-schedule. Worse, there is only one set of tracks.

We have to go to Chicago to get to Denver - takes 2 days.

I just think rail should have been a bigger priority.

Travel in luxury, read the paper, stare at the scenery and have a glass of wine..At the end of the line a REAL car would take you to your final destination. This is how a civilized society works. It was the one thing that was so disappointing about returning to the states. No train service. Our love affair with the automobile is like being married to an ugly fat woman. yeah, she might get er done but ho much sweeter would the ride be with a little hottie and her doing the driving!

Topped off the tank today. $4.35 a gallon for 89 octane/Regular. Seems stable. TV news says our region has one of the highest gas prices in the country. That was before the current price hike.

well, I traded in my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee for a 2019 a few weeks ago. Its the V8, but I need to have a vehicle that can tow the horse trailer if needed.

Gas is $4.39 a gallon at the cheapest I saw yesterday, not counting the casino we drove past that had it at $4.18

And rail... if anyone has lived in europe for a few years, the rail system is very nice.
I love going by rail in the USA, did it many times as a kid. The gov't doesn't subsidize it and wish they did, because but they made it difficult and expensive.

Considering how many they have made, I'm not too concerned with that. It seems pretty isolated. I've read the Corvette forums as well, and I think most of the problems they talk about there are actually scarce. Any new build is going to have teething pains. I'm prepared for that. I've got other rigs to drive if I have to. This will be 3rd year of production. It looks like they are correcting most of the issues they have had with the 1st year cars. Plus, if it becomes too much to handle, I can sell it down the road. Not like I'm married to it.

Noticed today that the No1 heating fuel was 3.96 a gal at the bulk plant if you haul it yourself. Up roughly 30% over the past month or so. 300 gallon haul works out to 1188.00. A lot of folks burn around 150 gallons a month or more if they have a big house. Letting your house freeze really isn't an option.

Generac is flooding the airwaves here with their stand-alone nat-gas generator setups. One of my customers had one, an older lady, and it was set to self-test when I walked by. Loud sucker. Neighbor said it self-tested once a week/month (adjustable) and annoyed everyone around. Auto-cutout from Nat Grid power. Looked interesting. All I have is a small RV gasoline generator that I use to power my furnace when the power here goes out. Which is does, for 2-3 days a year. Ice storms usually. A pain, as local supermarket goes down too. No backup there.
