All I can add to this discussion is this. At least some original minty 1908 commercials have survived. I posted mine here some time ago. Including just a couple pics (along with magazine) here for comparison.

I will add to the photo's. Here is my 1908 Commercial rig without the hold open. Not 100%, but is 100% unmessed with.
