Huge collection Appraised

I have to say, that Tom Whiteman and a consultant (Dwight Gruber) appraised a huge collection (and inventory) in Arizona. I wanted to be there, but I am a bit out of town, looking at it now, i should have come home and helped.

As it was, we gained valauble information and had a blast.

If you click on the link of the appraisel you'll see the collection, well the inventory. Mind you these are just parts of the collection and no, we did not bring anything home, although Tom and I have added items to the website, oops, sorry for the ad.

We are not in the position to say who the collection belonged to, so please don't ask.

Oh, BTW, EVERYTHING, has been moved from the house and placed into special storage.

what a retirement plan!!!!! Nice collection. I am guessing there will be a lot of fine lugers going around in the near future. It's a shame we have to say so long to some fine folks to make them available. Hopefully they will end up in good hands.

While it is sad that some fine Luger collectors have passed on, it's good that the pistols themselves will find new homes.

Can you tell us of any particularly interesting Lugers that were appraised??? Anomalies perhaps??? Prototypes, test pistols, curiosities???

(Now, if Dianne Feinstein had her way, these would all be manhole covers)...

Perhaps you can tell us who's huge Arizona collection / inventory it isn't. After all, without any hints how can anybody be expected to figure it out ?? Great work and great for Legacy !!

Legal restraints prevent revealing whose collection this is, but obvious is obvious. As I said on the other Forum, I heard "through the grapevine" what the appraised value is and I was somewhat surprised. I postulate that several of the really valuable items may have sold previously.

Herb, I postulate the same thing, and collection and inventory are two different cats...

As most estates, it is up to the family, and it could sit for years.

Twice today I have been told I was advertising on the web. I guess that I thought the readers would find this interesting.

Will delete this thread, if it is deemed an advertisement.

I suspect that the "appraised" lot that we are viewing is the business "working stock" and does not include the private collection of rare and high-dollar guns.

Yes, that is true, those were appraised seperately... and also by us with input from myself and the others.

Ed, I for one, publically on this Forum, greatly appreciate your bringing all this to our attention. I look at this as a great "feather" in your cap to be chosen (along with Tom of course) as the apprasier for such a prestigious collection. I noted Ron's post above and that would explain the rather "low" value. If I have to get a value for any items in my collection, I'm calling you!

I would have deleted this thread if I thought it was out-of-line advertising - but, clearly - it is not.. And I am very sensitive about "advertising" on this forum, as you and others know.

Nearly all appraisals "real and personal property" are subject to USPAP (Uniform Standards for Professional Appraisal Practice) as set out by the Appraisal Standards Board of the Appraisal Foundation. In this case, the appraisal of this collection would fall under Standard Rule 7 which covers development of personal property appraisals and Standard Rule 8 which covers personal property appraisal reporting.

Without going into all the details, I believe that the confidentiality provision applies here. Although, no values were discussed, photos of the collection were displayed/disclosed, hopefully with the client's permission.

Dave, I think I am a bit offended.

Yes, an official state licensed company came in and were the "estate appraisers" and we were the consultants of appraising the collection and the inventory.

YES, we received permission to use and show the pictures shown.

I would have preferred a private email to suggesting that we did something unethical!

Congrats Ed, Tom & Dwight... for being chosed to advise on the value of such a large number of Lugers... and I agree completely with John D.

This is not an advertisement, this is a privileged notification to the collector community that many fine Luger pistols will available to add to their collections in the not too distant future.

Thanks to the team of the three of you. Almost looks like the basis for a new book Ed! (at least here's hoping!)
