Ejector gave up the ghost today

Went shooting today (it's an holiday here). The ejector of shooter number two (S/42) gave up on me.

Luckily it's not a numbered part and I have spares.

Just finished installing it.

I am curious; did it break right at the pivot??? (Where it locks into the barrel extension/receiver). That seems like where the stress would concentrate...Kind of like bending a coat hanger...

It broke the front tip just where it enters the barrel extension to do it's ejecting stuff.

This is where I have experienced breakage on Luger extractors. I have had two(2) break in that area over the years.

What's ironic is:

Shooter number 1 (a BYF 41) has had gazillion shots through it and the ejector still holds (knock on wood, cause I only have one other spare), shooter number 2 is quite recent in my hands and only has about 1k through it since I got it. But I suspect it's ejector was a newly made replacement. The one I installed now is an original. Let's wait and see.

So his ejector broke at the same place where your extractor broke??? Just want to get that straight in my mind's eye...

It would be some coincidence if both parts broke at the same time...

Now, don't you be mean. If I had a dollar bill for every time I said extractor meaning ejector. I wouldn't be rich... But I'd have enough money for a lobster dinner with a Champagne magnum to go with.

Rhuff could be talking about his extractor; I have one that broke/chipped the corner off at the forward end...

I hate the ejectors; It always seems like I'm going to break one whenever I remove/replace it...

I've had one or two with the "arm" the part that does the ejecting, too short.
Look ok on inspection, but don't work well at all.

Seems most of the ejectors I've installed required some tweaking to snap in correctly; usually at the round "retainer" at the back of the ejector that fits into the receiver hole to lock it in fore and aft. Sometimes the overall length is too long at the back too.

Kind of hard to tell original from used reproductions, but I'm sure some were/are that I have used.

The replacement had visually the same dimensions. After installed I ran manually a full magazine and it ejected positively. Next weekend I'll know for sure if it works fine.

And yes, it did take some "persuasion" (and a few selected words)

to snap into place.

Sorry all. I read ejector and brain said extractor......brain fade!!! I am sure that this has nothing to do with a "senior brain malfunction". I will try to do better, but no guarentees.

Listen very carefully, I shall say this only once.

In a Luger pistol it's a magazine.

In a C96 you load it's magazine (fixed in most models) from a clip.

Was that clear?
