„S“ Police marking
What kind of police marking is this? Proof mark or a property mark?
I spotted this mark on a mismatched Luger for sale with a non matching frame, S/42 toggle and a new, longer barrel.

I call it a Starburst S - the S belonged to a specific inspector

Thank you, Ed.
But it appears bigger than a small inspectors marking.

Thank you, Ed. I was already afraid it could be a VoPo Luger.

Don't reject a good VoPo Luger out of hand.
While they may not be valued like a matching unmolested original, some of these in particularly good condition would be considered collectible by many people. I have an unissued VoPo purchased long ago with accessories. A 1921 DWM resplendent with their acceptance markings and grips, it represents that part of the history of Lugers.

"pre-Vopo", the star is for the Berlin Police and the "S" soviet sector.
Hard to find. It would be more helpful if you would post pictures of the pistol and other markings too. Just an single image can lead to errors. JMHO.

If possible, find out if the "rays" are actually oak leaves. This would confirm the Soviet sector identity. Those Berlin police pistols are very rare.
