Recheckering grips
I have a mint 1940 luger, except for a flattened area of the left grip about 1/4 inch by 1 inch in the middle. The area is just below where your thumb would rest. Is it possible to have that area repaired without reducing the value of the weapon? The checkering is intact but just flattened. If I am being anal and this kind of damage occurs on many grips, let me know also.

<img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" /> Rjennings,
If it isn't too bad and the rest of the grip is ok, I wouldn't mess with it. I could probably sharpen up the checkering to match the rest of it, but you would be left with a "low spot" in your grip in that place. The only way to make everything come out even is to rechecker the whole grip. I'm like Thor in his refinshing, if its not really messed up bad, I hate to redo original grips. They will look "new", and unless your gun looks "new", won't match it. If you are having a gun refinished, and the grips are in sad shape, then I can make them match your refinished gun. Thank You. I know you are right. It is one small area everything else is perfect. The weapon is 99.5% blue, just slight holster wear. Robert
