Default New to forum

I have a 4" DWM 9mm Luger that appears almost new. The action is tight and it functions as it should, no import marks, straw parts look new & bluing looks 95% with no pits.

I don't know a thing about Lugers. How would I go about using this forum to learn a bit about my pistol?

Thanks. After reading some of the posts here it seems that I am in the land of real experts.

To learn more about your Luger, the first three things that come to mind are photos, photos and photos. Top, both sides and under the barrel to start with. Is there a date over the chamber? To provide information about your Luger, we need a bit more to start with.

As said above, pictures and info of the gun.

In the technical pages are 'ID" sheets that you can print out and then write down the info you see, then tell us what is what....

If there are straw parts it is likely a pre mauser pistol. Is there a script DWM or Erfurt on the top of the toggle?

Much more information is required to say anything for sure.

Some pics, I hope...

The pic I didn't get was the front part of the metal grip which was stamped "8.R8.2". The magazine and checkered wood scales don't have a serial number. The pins that run through the toggle are blued on the ends. There is no date on the top of the chamber area. The toggle has "zero" sideway "slop" in the fitting of the parts. The straw parts look 100% to me. The stamped markings look strong to me. The underside of the barrel is marked "55 43" as is the frame adjacent to the barrel stamping. Just below these these numbers is something that looks like a lower case cursive "a". I bought this pistol at a gun show from people who seemed sincere and honest for a good price. I think I got lucky. Can anyone help me identify what I have? Thanks!

Pictures are too tiny and out of focus..plus taken with a flash. Try them next to a window in natural light. Get a good closeup in focus.

With just the photo's you have..does it have a stock lug?

Get a good photo of the markings on the left side just aft of the barrel. It is looking like a pre 1910 but I cannot tell even with blowing up your photo's as best I could.

It is a DWM in seemingly nice shape but good photo's will tell if it's a re blue.

The grip strap marking indicates military issue. No date on the chamber makes it pre 1910 unless the date has been scrubbed off.

The proof marks look like #12, a 1908 DWM military with no chamber date. What do you think? Do the stampings or anything else look like a reblue. I'm not lucky enough to have it be a pristine original Luger. THANKS AGAIN!

The photos are tantalizing but as Jerry states, they are not very useful. From the indistinct images it looks like a nice gun. Are you sure the grip markings are not B.R8.2? The first image looks like there are proof marks on the left side of the receiver. You may have a 1908 First Issue that went to the Bavarian 8th Regiment, but we will need much better photos to tell more.

8.R.8.2

The "R" is a sort of fancy script almost twice as high as the two "8"s. The "2" is about half the size of the "8"s.

The first marking is clearly an "8".

That's what I'm talking about! Great photo's! This pistol will not have a stock lug. The markings look a little washed out..Blue looks good but will need more pics to determine it it's a refinnish.

Is the muzzle in the white? Have you disassembled the pistol?

A nice looking First Issue but I believe that the relieved trigger bar indicates at least one none original part.

The muzzle end of the barrel, and I am speaking of the entire radiused crown, has no bluing. There is slight bluing wear on the side of the barrel at the muzzle as might be caused by a holster.

I have not field stripped the pistol as it seems very clean to me. I did look at the youtube instructions for field strip which was very thorough. Thank you.
