Found a type 1 drum

Went to a local gun show today and found this there. Gave 1k for it, but I had just sold a gun for $1350 profit. So I figured that it was actually FREE!

All the way home I'm thinking I hope it isn't a repro, but it held 20 rounds just fine!

It seems a correct first issue TM08. This drum is one of 70.000 made by A.E.G. Berlin.

Doug, Great find! Do they usually hold 20 rounds without using a loading tool? These things are getting pretty expensive. Wish I had one...Jerry Burney

Jerry, usually you can only get seven or eight in without a loading tool. The price on them is going up, I bought a type 2 drum with dust cover two or three years ago for $700.

Beautiful Type 1, tough to find in that condition. Noticed that it is stamped Germany. Wonder if it is one that was imported and distributed by Pacific Arms or Stoger in the '20s and '30s?

My Type 1 is also Germany marked. Like Ron said, I felt these were sold threw Pacific Arms. <img border="0" alt="[jumper]" title="" src="graemlins/jumper.gif" />

Hello guys,
this is a little extract from my 1923 Frantzius catalog. It is possible to see a LP08 with some accessories, among them a TM08. It is interesting the price. In the next days I am going to put the scans of the entire Luger section in my web site.

nice find and a great price. Getting a nice profit on the gun you sold and then buying this item was your lucky day. I hope that you bought a lottery ticket on the way from that gun show.

Just my opinionm and I could be wrong, but I don't think that there were repros on the type 1 Trommel magazines. This summer I was able to compare my brothers type 2 repro with my type 1 and while physically comparing the two I could see the differences clearly. The most obvious difference was that the repro had arc welding on the spine. Arc welding did not exist during WW1. The lack of quality on the cut edges of the drum were also pretty clear. If you get a chance to compare, do it. You will see what I mean.

I am sorry that I cannot supply photos. The repro that I looked at belongs to my brother in California and I live in Michigan. My computer is being repaired now (my system got badly injured somehow) and I am using a computer at the library.
Maybe sometime this year I will break down and buy a new computer and a digital camera. I will try to remember to post some pictures. Right now I am having trouble with the library computer.It just does not have the "feel" of my computer. I have a Mac and they have a brand X.
Maybe I can call my brother and he can take some digital pictures of his repro Type 2 Trommel magazine. If so, I will post them.

Hey John, that Imagewriter is older than my best friend, Bucky the dachshund. I would get emotional losing either one of them with all the wars that they have been through with me. I went to the stores to price out a new computer (Mac G4), printer/scanner (Epson), camera and software. Good Golly! Thats a lot of buckos. Well, as soon as I get my income taxes completed I will start some serious looking. I have a 1943 Kreighoff with two matching mags that I am dying to post some pictures on here.
