Default Recently Purchased a 41/42

I recently purchased a 41/42 serial # 3873 N. It has all the numbers matching, except the mags of course. It came with a brown holster and take down tool. I also have the two copies of the paperwork the soldier had to file to bring the Luger home. It has the walnut grips and was rated at 80% on finish. The holster is very worn. It has the stiching for the take down tool holder visible thru the top. I'm not to sure if that is normal or not. I am very very new to the Luger community, so I am curious as to the average value on these guns. I can post pics at a later date. Thanks in advance for any information anyone can provide.

Welcome to th forum

Pictures are the only way for folk to guess at a value

All matching, remember that includes small parts, the hold open, the rear toggle pin, etc

You can check a wide range of values and see pictures on places like gunbroker, Simpsons LTD, Legacy Collectables, etc, as value could be $700 or it could be $1500

Here is a link to the pictures. I know some are not of the greatest quality, lighting, etc.. Time did not allow for making a light box and doing it the best way.

Hi Aaron, and welcome to the forum.

It's better if pictures can be posted right here on the forum instead of external sites since later external references often disappear.

You look like you have a nice Mauser luger in original finish. With the wear and pitting, there are some finish condition issues. Some of those issues may result from the pistol being stored in the holster. In the future store it separately.

The holster appears original to me. So does the tool. The tool pocket was normally stitched the way your's is.

You can get retail values for similar pistols off Internet sales sites like Simpson's Ltd, FGS Firearms and Checkpointcharlies.com. This would be an insurance value.

My guess at a collector value if the pistol is all matching (including the internal parts, proper internal trigger plate s/n - related to the first two digits of the s/n) - and 80% finish coverage is about $1100 to $1200. Take down tool is probably $85 and the holster $225.

Cheers!

Marc
