Should the "gesichert" lettering on Mauser military lugersbe painted?
I have seen examples both ways, painted and unpainted. I pose the question after reading some things on one of the P.38 forums. There is a consensus there that if the "F" and "S" near the safety are not painted red and white respectively, one should be suspicious the pistol has been refinished (dipped).

yes, it should be painted - but I think assuming that its been refinished is a stretch, its just paint, and I have heard of folks thinking it shouldn't be there and removing it.
If careful and you use the right color of 'aged' looking paint, you can replace it. |
