Tell me what i have

a have a luger pistol that has a four leaf clover on the left side of the grip with a swastica in the middle of the clover. On the other side it has the initials EWB engraved into the wooden handle. Also under the safety on the left side it says "GESICHERT". I know nothing about guns, and was just wanting to find out some history and what the value may be. It is in excellent condition. Any help would be appreciated.

The word under the safety means "safety." Thats about all I know, as I'm a newbie here, too.

The word Gesichert means Secured in German.

You have a gun with some interesting history. The EWB carved into the grip indicate that the gun was once issued to a Bavarian para-military, pro-Nazi unit in the late 1920s. The exact name from the german, I can't recall right now (Senior Moment!), but I think it was something like, "Erwache Wehr Bayern" which loosely translates to Awake, Armed Bavaria.

Can you tell me what markings are on the toggle, if the serial numbers match and any other markings on the metal portions. Per centage of original bluing would be nice to know.

There is a photo of a pistol and a 98k bayonet in Jan Still's Weimar Luger book (I think this is the book) which has a little history on the EWB carved in the grips. Sorry I can't give more info, but I don't have my books with me.

Marvin's correct, EWB information is in "Weimar and early Nazi Lugers" by Jan Still, page 109

"The Einwohnerwehr was a paramilitary police force raised by the Reichswehr to allow German citizens to protect themselves from revolutionaries and looters. Small arms issued to such units had an E.W. with a letter signifying the state or city branded into their grips or stock."

In the case of EWB, the B signifies Bavaria.

On page 109 is a photo of an artillery Luger with EWB carved

into the right grip, and a bayonet with EWB in a grip.

It sure is difficult being here and not having any good books with me!!
