Default Question On Holster Markings

Just wondering about a few markings on the back of my holster. I posted some pics of the inside a few days ago. but on the back there are 3 markings. The stamp on the inside is P39(1) and on the back there are 3 markings in a row. cga then the eagle carrying a swastika with WaA47 under the swastika, and then a 41 to the right of them. Thanks

Alex, the WaA47 is the waffenampt contract number (47) and the closest I can get to it is that there were eight makers using that mark but none of them correspond to the cga code and the closest I can get to that is cgn. Also no info on the 39(1) code. The eagle with the swastika in a circle is the Wehrmacht Waffen Amt acceptance eagle. No info on the 41, possibly the year of manufacture. Seems authentic but as yet undocumented.

Correction, not eight manufactures, only two and an unknown but there are eight noted instances of the 47 code marking from 1940 to 41, sorry bout' that.

Default Holster

I do not have that code listed, but, I deal only with the P38 holsters, so that is not hard to figure.

The holster is for the CZECH .380 MODEL 38. The Nazi designation for that gun was P39(T). The model was rubber stamped inside the flat. The holster was made in 1941 and accepted by the local WaffenAmt.

See Axis Pistol by Jan Still....Page64-64

Jan says 44,000 were procured. It is currently believed that most of them were given to the Finnish troops by the Nazis.

Because it is a 9x17 and NOT a 9x19, the P38 mag does not fit unless the stitching is ripped..

Right about that you should have seen me try to put a P.38 Mag in mine. I finlly bought a CZ38 to go with the holster because it was so doggone nice. Ugly Pistol tho but guess it served its purpose.

Default CZ 38

has to be the dumbest pistol ever made for the military? [considering the date it was made?] It is as big as any 9x19 and DA only...shoots a wimpy round...and is UGLY

You note, it took the Germans about 15 minutes to stop production when they took over!...and the ones they got, they gave to someone else!

Herb,

The P39(t) holster I have appears to have been made for the P.38 and a strip of leather was sewn into the inside rear of the magazine pouch and was left the natural color. This was because of the size of the magazines Orv discussed. These holster are usually very nice and in great condition. I know most of these UGLY pistols were given to Finland, but I ownder how many rear eschelon German soldiers carried them?

The CZ-38 pistols seized by the Germans after the occupation of the remnant of Czechoslovakia in 1939 were issued to the Waffen SS troops on time for the campaign of France in 1940. The hostility of the German Army (Heer)toward the Waffen SS (perceived as a rival) was such that the then newly created SS units had to be equipped with inferior material and arms from seized Polish and Czech stocks. There was also at this moment an accute shortage of small arms and the regular units of the Army (Heer) received priority for the best equipment (procurement of new pistols for all elements of the German Armed forces was the overall responsability of the Army specifically the Heereswaffenamt). After the battle of France, apparently satisfied with the record of the Waffen SS Hitler insisted that the SS receive better equipment and CZ-27, CZ-38 were subsequently sent to Finland when the shortage of small arms was less acute. I currently own one of these P-38 holsters marked P 39(t) for the CZ-38 pistol. It is dated 1940 with DLWP maker's initials and Waffenamt marked. It fits perfectly both pistols and the extra P-38 mag.
