Lee Enfield No.4

Well i went to go and try and buy a Mauser 98k last night. There was 4 in stock. However at the last second of buying it, i saw a Lee Enfield with a carry sling mounted at the top right corner. I asked to look at it and when i found that ammo for this gun was cheaper along that it held 10 cartriges instead of 5 i decided to get this one instead. Anyone have any advice or tips on what types of good ammo there is for this rifle? oh and where can i find some stripper clips? Oh also Can these rifles have scopes mounted? im thinkin on using this as also a hunting rifle and wanna know if it can take a scope.

all I can say is, I like these rifles too

nice round, about the same as a 30-06.

Yea i really like it too

I like the feel of the gun when i pull the bolt back it feels and sounds smooth like the slide does on my Beretta 92F. I also like how it has a detachable mag and it can hold 10 rounds.

What i dont like though is how hard the button on the mag release is to push in, that thing is hard

I see, hmm well i guess i dont need to buy new mags for it, just chargers. Even without a charger couldn't i just put ten rounds in by pushing them in one at a time? Ive done that with a Mosin m38 before. Or when i do get a hold of some stripper clips, do i set the clip at the mouth of the rifle and push the bullets in like the mauser, or do i stick the whole charger into the whole gun like you do with Ebloc clips for the M1 Garand.

Tac is our resident "keep" 'em" in-line. He is a very pleasant guy (just don't meet him in the dark and have ticked him off)...

Also, that is why I am here, we are a friendly forum, and i must admint, I have a bad habit where I delete postings that aren't educational, interesting towards luggers or that are in poor taste. ~~grinning~~

Stay away from the pakistani milsurp ammo. I think is marked POK or PL or something like that. Its cheap. It hangfires. Is dirty and corrosive. You get beter ignition with bulk purchase last years clearance fireworks. Rumor is that Wolf will soon start making .303 so there might be a good source of plinking ammo. Otherwise .303 is not cheap. Almost forgot. As the islanders bo things differently, (drive on the wrong side of the road, ect) I've found that the point of aim on the SMLEs is always lower than anything else I've ever fired. Could be the ammo, but you have to put the front sight post at the bottom of the bull instead of the center.

Say, tac, your post reminded me of something I read a thousand years or so ago. Can't remember by whom or where, as usual.

Anyway, it was the author's opinion that the side of the road those in England and the U.S. drive on was determined by the use of whips in moving wagons and such. I wish I could remember the rationale for the different sides being the best for each of them to employ the whip without striking other horses, but it escapes me now. Seems as though our American ancestors could unlimber the coach whip with the right hand from the right side without impediment, according to the case made.

I'm not saying it was true, but it was the only explanation I'd heard to that point, and for that reason, was remarkable.

I think I understand. But what does "scurrilous mean? Down here it usually preceedes a description of a young female. 'Scurrilous damn good lookin' or something like that. Tac, bet we could have a time over some booze. Might ought to do that sometimes. I'm headed to the continent next year, might see if we can link up somewhere.

Tac, you are correct on the way the service teaches to aim. At least that was the way they tried to teach me. Hard for an old country boy that grew up with a 22 in his hand to NOT put that front sight on the center of his target. Nowdays my eyesight is such that I need a scope just to see the target!

Guess I am the oddball Yank. I was taught from an early age to take a 6 o'clock hold on the bullseye, because you could better determine windage if your front sight wasn't lost in the black.

Bought an artilery carbine martini chambered for the veneral .303 several years back. Never fired it; instead, gave it to my muscular son. He fired a box of 20 and decided he never wanted to shoot it again. Sez he, "Compared to the barret Big 50, this little sucker is BRUTAL"

I think I will let my arthritic bones be spared of both.
