WARNING Pay Pal Scam

Here is the latest scam (Phishing) using the Pay Pal logo. If you get this do not open it, forward it to: spoof@paypal.com it's an identity theft attempt

I hate these, there is also one that looks JUST like the e-bay log in. If YOU chose to go there, then it is okay, but don't click on a link from e-mail unless you expecting it...

Man, I got nailed on that paypal scam about 3 weeks ago. They got all my credit cards and my email account. I am finally just digging out of the mess and STILL will not do any business using paypal.
I'm a pretty cautious guy and will tell you that the communication I recieved looked exactly like what would come from ebay. I know better now and just delete all attempts at this "phishing"

There is a never ending stream of this trash, all originated by that portion of the world that resides under society's sewage line drain grate.

You will also see these arrive telling you that you have a second chance on an item that closed on eBay as well as telling you that you have not responded to a closed eBay auction and a complaint is about to be filed.

As Ed noted, never, never open the link and supply your account number.

Just for the fun of it, I followed along with one of the bogus second chance offers and was asked to pay, sure enough, by Western Union.

In addition to using "spoof@paypal.com" and "spoof@ebay.com" I process the inbound mail using SpamCop in the hopes that the report back to the serving ISP or ISP's might possibly also help. I doubt that it does, I admit.

There is no end of scum to deal with in life and they have now populated the internet thoroughly.

Legitimate mail from PayPal will ALWAYS greet the account holder BY NAME.

Spammers DO NOT have access to that info!!!

If they don't know your name, DON'T TALK TO THEM!!!

Ponyman, this one did in fact have my full name in the TO: column, it was removed when I sent it to my photos section for transmission here. It looked completely ligit in all respects. This guy has access to Pay Pal info.
About six months ago I changed my email address because of escessive spam. Following that I went to Ebay and PayPal and made the changes there so the accounts would work. The following day I started getting this junk coming to my NEW email address, I think both of them have been hacked and someone has full access to at least their address data base.

I like Paypal, it has its uses. if you sell on e-bay or the like, money is right there. I have never had a problem with it. doesn't mean I trust them

I use a savings account that only has about $35 in it, I transfer money if I buy something. For other on-line purchases and as a back-up, I use a Amex credit card that is guaranteed not to screw me if something happens.

Life is risk, and I try to minimize it, yet make life easier.

I agree with ED, I've used PayPal since it came out a few years ago, it's convienient and so far I've never had a problem with it, just don't open those darn 'phishing' attempts, learn to recognize them and report them. I also get them faking Ebay and banks and credit unions that I have never heard of. Even got one from an official looking site of the State of Utah about something. In other words, if you don't recognize the sender as legitimate don't open anything, and often even if you do get one that appears to be from a friend with an attachment, especially an 'exe' file, never open it. Delete it, better safe than sorry.

I'm with you Ed gotta separate account with $0 in it unless I am transfering money to paypal, I have been working with computers for my lively hood for 33 years and believe me you can't be too careful.

Herb -

I received a phishing probe about PayPal about the same time. The message stated that someone had tried to access my account and that I should go to the designated site (URL on the email) and update all of my personal information, including bank information. Like yours, the bogus email looked exactly like emails from PayPal. Very convincing.

I just deleted it.

It seems likely that some would have answered the email and would have been trapped.
