Unfortunately this is the only shop I trust to work on my Lugers so I can't burn bridges,.They can be cantankerous at times. unless somebody else knows a gunsmith in the Bay Area who knows a P08 from a P 38

OK took it to Krausewerks. They say somebody put in a 9mm spring which is too stiff. Also say the metallic cartridge specialities ammo is pretty good, no complaints. Says usually found at gun shows . He's not sure there's a big difference between Prvi P and Fiocchi. Says the usual load of European cartridge mfg is " hotter" than in the US.. I got a box of Fiocchi to see when it is back if it will function with Fiocchi, which I can get shipped.

by the way, Wolf does not distinguish between 9mm and .30 and sends the same spring for both.

I believe that I have seen LugerDoc mention a process of removing a specific number of spring coils for use in a .30.

There is so much "wrong" with what the expert shop told you-
did you not complain about the ammo? That is at least "one" complaint! "Usually found at gun shows"- now there is a glowing recommendation and stamp of approval!

No big difference in Fiocchi and PP? He has never tried either, IMO. You have read the threads on the .30 luger ammo "problems" both here and on the other forum?

"Someone changed the spring"- maybe; but check out the spring sticky and you will see that DWM put the same spring in their .30 and 9mm luger pistols at times! Which is not to say your spring is the correct size/weight spring. To be sure buy a spring from Lugerdoc and install it.

European "hotter" ammo- like everything else- some is and some "ain't"! Since there is no current US mfg of .30 luger- his statement is meaningless in regard to your inquiry. Reloads and ammo in "un-remarkable" boxes doesn't count.

Please let us know how the Fiocchi works in your luger.

Default Ammoseek.com

30 Luger available from Fiocchi or PPU

Ammoseek.com. Enter the caliber , case type, etc and find multiple sales points!

PPU is Fmj, while Fiocchi is lead nosed!

I find Fiocchi is available all year, but PPU is only available for a while each year (when they make a batch I suppose). I stock up on PPU, because Fiocchi won't cycle my gun properly, as other have reported. But it clearly works for some.

Also, Fiocchi makes both lead nose and FMJ ammo. I can only find the lead nose around here in the 2 stores that carry it. (Unfortunately one just closed so it will be the one store that carries it locally.)

If I need .30 Luger I go here. https://www.luckygunner.com/handgun/30-luger-ammo

That URL should take you directly to their .30 Luger ammo selection. They almost always have Fiocchi available and at the moment they have 31 boxes of PPU too. Fiocchi in both FMJ and lead nose. They seem to keep track of the inventory as well, when I bought some about a year ago for one of my Lugers the inventory available dropped after I placed my order. If your state allows (Ohio does), they even ship it right to your door.

I have found Fiocchi to work perfectly in my Sig P210. I haven't tried PPU. I'm going to drag out my Luger and try also.

Is it generally believed that PPU is better than Fiocchi?

My AE will stove pipe Fiocchi every third or fourth round. Where PPU have never failed to totally eject.

Curl,

PPU is loaded a bit hotter to European Specs.

Fiocchi pistol ammo is loaded here, in the USA, to SAAMI Specs.

SAAMI specs, for this round, are way too low to operate a Luger's action properly. Remember that the 7.65 Luger round was around long before SAAMI even existed. Also remember that many other modernly designed pistols (your Sig for instance) have come and gone since.

I was at a Cabelas today and decided to try and find 30 Luger ammo there as over the years I have found that they are often a decent source for some harder to find calibers.

I had to correct the sales guy there are he kept insisting to me that the Luger shot 9mm. So he kept trying to show me 9mm, also known as 9x19 he kept telling me. I kept trying to tell him no, 30 Luger. I finally had to just politely stop him and explain to him that there are Commercial Lugers and that they do NOT all shoot 9mm, that 30 Luger is a caliber and does exist.

We were then able to determine with certainty that Cabelas does NOT carry 30 Luger!

I got a good laugh out of it even if I struck out.
