542
There is an estate sale which has a luger listed as a model
542. I assume that someone has seen this on the gun, but I can not find a reference to it. Of course I can not see it until the morning of the sale. Any ideas? neil |

Re: 542
This is THE kind of sale you want to go to; one where they misidentify the merchandise. In this case, twenty guys in your area will see the ad and flock to the sale--first one there will get the K-date "542" model luger for $500.
It is almost certainly an S/42 (Mauser manufactured) luger pistol and its actual value could range from $200 to $4000. The estate sales company often will look in any catalogue they have that lists guns (they don't have one most likely given the identification error). They will then ask a gun dealer buddy to tell them what a luger is worth. He will say collectors pay big dollars for them (he won't have any clue because he sells hunting shotguns) and says it could be worth $1000 or $10,000 (because he saw a ratty one at a gun show for $1000). The sellers then price it at $4000 and see what happens. This is basically what I have seen. Good luck dave |

Re: 542
Some time back our paper had a pistol advertised in the classified section as a 516 SAVER. I puzzled over this until it finally came to me that is was a SIG SAUER. They say we all see things a little differently.

Re: 542
Neil,
Please keep us informed on what the pistol may be. You never can tell, it may be a prize at a good price. Marvin C. |
