Default Magazine Question

Gentlemen, thanks, you have a very helpful website. As for my question.....I have a non-matching aluminum base magazine with the letter f...+...and an eagle stamp 63. From reading your site the + meaning a second mag for the original serial # pistol. Would this be a correct, for the period, magazine for a 41 BYF?

Hi Ed, A magazine with an E/63 on it's base would be too early for a 41 byf. The correct magazine would be an Army Type 3 or 4, as illustrated below. Regards, Norm

You also do not mention a serial number. Was this scrubbed off or is it present?

Norme,
Thanks. I take it that the last photo or type 4 is a plastic base? Which would be correct for a 't' block production? Or is this a question that can't be answered with certainty.

Alan,
The serial number of the magazine I have is 6424.

Hi Ed, By the time the t block came along, most 41 byf's were equipped with mags with black plastic bases. The good news for you is that they weren't numbered, the bad news is that they are expensive, about $200.00 for a decent example. Regards, Norm

Ed,
Here is an example of a magazine that would have been issued with a 1941 byf luger with a "t" suffix. Magazines in the 1941 "t" block would also have fxo stamped on the body.

Tharpo,
Thanks, it seems I have a lot to learn. Would this be the type 3 as shown above by Norme?

Ed,
Here is what a 1941 fxo stamped magazine looks like from the side.

I agree with the above, but IMHO the unnumbered BPBed FXO mags are an acceptable issue spare mag. TH
