Default police luger ???

i showed you an gun a few post before (playing with my new makro lens....)

by the way, the gun is an rework and with my little experience, although having read many books, i am not able to classify it – tinkerwork or old, official rework at the Weimar timeperiode ???

details:
------ serialnumber and production date
the frame has number 2480r, according to still this is a gun of the “alphabet DWM commercials”, produced 1928.
proofing of receiver is “crown N”, that will fit to my picture in my head and to the picture of the commercial range produced lugers.
toggle link, extractor, sideplate, have military style numbers. the sideplate has an second (commercial numbered) 00 at the bottomside.
also I will show you the inside of the frame (area locking bolt) there is an “N” in an circle. i have never seen before.
along with my knowledge, that all will not fit to the commercial serialrange ……. ?

------- proofing of breechblock
next point what makes me nervous
no proofing at the breechblock, except an “N” at an (for my knowledge), unusual place (see picture) which is more likely an old workerstamp, than an proofing.
special the missing proofing at the breech, for me that looks like an tinkerwork done in the post ww2 periode…
have you gentlemen, seen official reworks from the Weimar periode, with replaced breech without an following proofing ????

-------- schiwy and walter safety
the gun has mounted schiwy and walter safety, nice to see, but no police acceptance stamp at the whole luger, only the magazine (not matching) has an “sunburst K” stamp …… ?

schiwys were installed to existing guns 1933/34. Do you gentleman know, after the fitting of the safeties (schiwy/walter), which was in my knowledge, only done by policeamourers, were any stamps set to the gun or not…….. ?

---------- barrel
the barrel has an stamp, which i have seen at stills book about the weimar lugers (fig.37f). maybe an part of an “eagle over H”? ….. anyone who can identify this stamp……. ?

i thing in this proof/acceptance i can see an hint to an old official weimar rework, this acceptance/proof was not original set at the commercials. also, when looking at the area of the stop lug, i will suppose that once an new barrel was installed, it looks like being grinded and a new withness mark was set. seems to be professionals labor, not tinkerwork
now it is an 9mm, 100mm (4 inch) barrel.

second hint to an official rework during the weimar area:
the connection pin between toggle and receiver is also matching numbered with “80” according to görtz this was only made at lugers which were “reichseigentum” at the time the “heeresverordnungsblatt” spoke of an “thick connecting pin” and ordered the numbering of the bolts in march 1932.

so as you can see, without your experience, this gun is for me nice to look at, but i am not able to classify it …..

regards, wolfganggo .....

Wolfgang, most, if not all, of the police Lugers I have recorded from the p, q and r series of Alphabet DWM Commercials have this small eagle stamped on the underside of the barrel. I believe this indicates these were replacement barrels installed by the police to convert the 7.65-mm commercials to 9-mm. The eagle may be a Simson mark.

Unfortunately, I did not record that information as my main interest was in collecting data about police markings. My interest in the small eagle was a result of owning a "q" series Police Luger with the same eagle stamp which puzzled me initially. While not specifically recording the data, I have paid some attention to these when they show up on the forums. Also from memory, I think that most or all of this group of police Lugers have military as well as commercial numbering. As for breech proofs, I simply did not notice.

You might try searching under my posts for "small eagle" or "tiny eagle" in this and Jan Still's forum to find threads about similar guns.

Here's another example: http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthre...t=simson+eagle. This one has the C/N proof on the breech.

Wolf, Many of these Alpha commerical had the horizonal C/N on the left side of the center toggle link, rather than on the breech block. TH
