30 Luger bulk bullets

I haven't reloaded for my .30 caliber Luger in many many years. I used to use a lead .30 cal. rifle plinking load. Question--what do reloaders use now for this 93 grain .309 bullet? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

I'd check out the Hornady line of bullets in both .308-.309 and .311-312.

The 7.65 Parabellum will easily handle the .311-.312 bullets.

Also, you might want to try some IMR SR 4756 as a go to powder for the 7.65.

I originally bought the Sierra 8005 'Sports Master' bullets for my C96 Mauser, but I've fired them from several of my 7.65 Parabellum pistols as well. Good bullet.

If you are looking for lead bullets, then take a look at Western Bullet Company. They sell a 92gr LRN designed for the Luger. They say it is .309, but mine measure .311-.312in. and work just fine. Nice folks to deal with. Natchez Shooting DID have some of the Hornady .309in JHP XTP bullets. I purchased a 100 of them and have loaded a few, but have not shot them just yet.

I've got a few hundred of these, as well, but haven't found the time to have fun handloading with them yet.

All of the original DWM bullets I've miked were just at .309. Why the Germans decided to shoot undersized bullets out of both their 7.65 (.311 actual groove diameter) and 9mm (.358 actual groove diameter) remains a total mystery to me.

One thing is for sure and for certain; a .355 FMJ bullet or a .356 cast bullet, properly loaded, will, indeed, shoot like the devil out of that .358 Luger barrel!!!

I'm using Hornady .308 86 gr. jacketed SP bullets made for 30 Mauser in my 30 Lugers with good results. The powder is HP-38.
The big trouble is finding 30 Luger brass; so I'm going to convert some 30 Mauser brass to 30 Luger. Will do a separate post with the results later. Bill

I use the Hornady 90 grain XTP jacketed hollow point bullets with great results. They are .309 in diameter and load easily. Don't worry about the fact that they are hollow points. They cycle perfectly through my Luger.

Check on GB. I've seen bulk 93gr FMJ, looks like maybe Fiochhi??
They don't have any listed now. In the header put: .30 Luger or 7.65 Luger.

As noted above, the 30 Luger is really more of a 32. My M1900 barrel slugs at .304/.312. I have been neck sizing for .32 and prefer loading the Berry .312 71 gr. plated round nose. These are currently out of stock. The .311 85 gr. Magtechs are OK.

I concur with your experience, as I've been shooting .311 to .312 lead bullets from my 1920 Commercial 7.65 Parabellum for decades without any difficulty at all.

I am just guessing, but perhaps he meant to type "load" instead of lead. I was taken back also, when someone discusses leading with FMJ bullets.

The magtech bullets are lead. I should note that in an effort to minimize punishment on a 100+ year old Luger with a leaf type recoil spring I choose lighter bullets and load as light as it will function.
