WTB Camera, need help!

Hello everyone,

My scanner broke down a week ago and I'm considering buying a numerical camera. I want to be able to do PICS of pistols & close ups of Proofmarks...

I've looked at the following models:

NIKON CoolPix 4300
Canon Powershot G2
Canon Powershot G3

Which one is best? Any comments from equipement used by fellow Forum users?

I've never tried either of the Canon models but I use a Nikon CoolPix at work and have always found it really good. I have a Sony Cybershot myself but have had a lot of trouble taking close-ups - proof marks etc - with it. (That may just be operator error though.)

Hello Kidvette,

I opted for a Casion QV-series a couple of years ago.

It can be had with an IBM micro-drive that is only 1" square, the disk is removable, and holds up to 340 MB of data. At the camera's highest resolution of 1600x1200 pixels, this drive will hold up to 600 jpeg files.

This capacity was important from my work and is a bonus for my Luger habit...

It also has a nice "macro" focus feature which allows very good close-up shots for detail photography...

And the camera can be switched to full manual operation, which I understand many of the newer digital cameras cannot; you are just locked into automatic mode/feature controls...

I have very good results with My Sony CD 250.
The one drawback, I find is that it needs a corrective lense for "very" close up pictures.
I have adapted 35mm close up #1, #2, #3, and #4 lenses oe any combination of them. (Adapters and lenses can be purchased from any of the better camera shops). I find that I and am able to focus so couse to the lense that I cannot measure the separation. And that is close, almost like contact with the lense surface. The problem at that close proxmidity is poor lighting.
The main advantage of the Sony CD 250 is the CD capability and ability to CD-R and CD-RW up to 150 0r better high resolution pictures on a single 3.5" disk.
The pictures in the forum "A One Of a Kind Luger Accessory" were made with this camera.
If any one wishes I will E-mail a couple of Photos of my Grips. I think that the quality will satisfy even the most critical.

PS- I forgot to add that it is capable of sound recording, multi stop motion photography, and short burst photography. and none of which I have as yet to try.

I use the Sony CD-300, similar to the CD-250. It does work!!!
Very satisfied...

I have a Nikon CoolPix 4500, and I love it! It takes great close-ups, has 4.0 megapixels, and a 4x optical zoom!

I think it's very simple to use, and the photo quality is very good...

Hope you are happy with whatever brand you chose!

I have a Nikon Coolpix 990 and it is great on macros, I think that Thor took most of his great shots with a Nikon Coolpix 950 until just recently when he got a different one, don't know what he is using now.
