Hi,

This is a Turkish 'security police' version from a small 1930's contract. Appears to be correct.

This is the Turkish Luger brought back by Ralph Shattuck and listed in his 1997 list#233 as "Mauser Banner Turkish police sn#1XXv" and offered for $9,500.00 at that time.....hope this is of some help.

The current 'counter price' of this Luger that is on the internet is $12,900. I wonder how this seller found out that it is the only one of three known that is in the USA in private hands? Do the Turks have any plans of releasing any more?

Tom,
I always worry about buying exotic Lugers like this one. Sure, I know that its a nice collectors piece now but there may be a horde of them sitting out there and they might be released the day after I pay a ton of cash for a rare specimen. This too often happens to me after I buy a stock in the stock market. The day after I buy, some bad news comes out and I am sitting on dead money.

Norm: I am one of those fortunate ones who owns one also. The serial on this one is 101 and mine is 100. Great gun for the collection.

Pete: Yes it has a holster which is inscribed in Turkish on the exterior, a proper proofed tool and the spare mag is proper however it is just unnumbered and unproofed (blank)&(the mag in the gun is numbered to the gun). I wish I could take pictures but I have never learned to master the camera or scanner. John, I have based my collection format on trying to obtain single examples of various different variations and having consecutive numbers of the same gun always seemed to be somewhat redundant and I have never chased that aspect of collecting. I have done it with some of my SAA colts but to no great degree. My desire and greatest pursuit will be having one of each of everything - a goal so out of reach that I will never stop chasing that illusive luger that I don't have in my collection. SAM

so while your serial number apparently falls within the serial number range it is not mentioned in any of my books. The seller of Luger number 101 also says that it is the only one in private hands in the USA. So how many of these super rare Lugers are really in private hands in the USA? Stills says that there were 750 delivered to the Turks. Sam, have you had yours verified by anyone? What general condition is it in?

Pete: It would be a real pleasure to get together again with you, I enjoyed Tulsa and I am sure that another meeting would be just as rewarding for me. What is in Kalamazoo? It is about 3-1/2 hours driving time from me, bar-ing any heavy traffic. My schedule usually demands that I make myself available to my business all day Monday through Friday and any deviation from this is quiet difficult. This Kalamazoo trip (luger get-together [?]) would have to be a weekend trip for me because scheduling social events are difficult and Saturday and Sunday would be the only days that may be open. If you would be kind enough to keep me abreast of this trip you are planning I would appreciate it. Unfortunately, my business travels to Michigan occur on a Tuesday/Wednesday basis each month so we may have to meet, again, at Tulsa...(when I forget how much my feet hurt from that gun show... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> .

Back to Turkish lugers...C. Kenyon in his 2nd. book on pages 122-123 indicates the Turkish Mauser contract in 1933-34 may have been for ~ 1,000 lugers.

Photographed is shown luger # 628. Do folks know if # 628 is in a USA collection or outside of the States ?

Sam, the holster shown on the same pages of this book is stamped with the number "411" on the front of the closure flap, underneath the brass closure stud. Is your Turkish holster number-stamped as well ? Might the holster number be matched to a gun number ?
