Post Good load for .30 Luger & 231

I know others have had pressure issues with Win 231, but I have not. I use 5gr of 231 with win primers and Hornady .30 93gr soft points and 86gr FMJ. Velocities were 5 shot avg.
86gr FMJ 6" barrel 1300 fps, 4" barrel 1200 fps.
93gr soft point 6" barrel 1275 fps 4" barrel 1170 fps. There was not even a hint of high pressure and the gun functioned perfectly.

Hi,

I will try that load with W231 as the only good results I had were with 7.3 Blue Dot/ 90gr XTP

Where do you get those FMC Bullets?? The only thing available around here is Hornady 90gr XTP.

Call Huntingtons in California I have posted a link to them. They are the only ones I have found that carry them.

P.08,

You probably have no pressure problems because you going by what the Luger was designed to do instead of SAAMI specs. The SAAMI spec for 30 Luger is probably not enough to get one to work reliably. Maybe we should regard the 30 Luger and 7.65 Parabellum as two distinct cartridges, the first SAAMI spec, the second actually designed to work in a Luger.

So warning!! Don't read this part!! If you do your Luger will blow up!! The SAAMI spec maximum average pressure for 30 Luger is 28,000 cup.

For those of you out there, who like me, prefer to take the easy road toward keeping one's barrel warm : Empire Arms (WWW.empirearms.com)is offering Finnish Saco/Lapua .30 Cal. Luger non-corrosive, brass cased, copper jacketed shoot'em-up ammo of very high quality for $8.75/25 or $32.50/100. Shipping is prompt and extremely reasonable as well.

A friend helped me smoke nearly 300 rounds of it one day last week and we were extremely pleased with it...so much so, that I promptly put in another order for 500 rounds. It's good, clean (non-corrosive), consistent, sure-fire stuff. Furthermore, the price beats Winchester (if you can find it) by a bunch. The bullet weight isn't listed by Empire, but I believe it is 93 grs.
