I figured I would ask the experts again...What is it and what is it worth?

From what I see its a Navy, cut down barrel, matching mag., side plate is mismatched, back strap marked "N 1950", barrel has same serial # as frame.

I merged these two threads, if you have two different 'parts' the info will go all over the place. Just as easy to add to your own thread.

I believe in many instances, more words and pictures is needed, the sideplate is a wrong one. What other parts do not have the 30 on them?

Also, the safety looks reblued, so if its reblued, likely the rest is too...

I see an upper that is post WW1 and a frame with Navy markings from what I believe is WW2, but I am not positive. Either a gun that went through time, or a complete mixing of parts.

Hi John, You have a very interesting 1906 Navy that saw service in two Navies, the Imperial and the Weimar. In 1921 it was shortened to 4" and given the Weimar Navy N1950 property mark on it's grip strap. This signifies that it was assigned to the North Sea fleet based at Wilhelmshaven. Your gun is particularly interesting because it's original rear sight was retained and because the original barrel was shortened rather than replaced. Jan C Still devotes a chapter to these guns in "Weimar Lugers".

Thanks Norme.

Just wanted to point out that the chamber mark is actually 1920, but it was a weak offset strike on the number zero. Therefore, it kinda looks like a 1921 chamber date.

I double checked and broke down the entire pistol again and all parts are matching with the exception of the side plate.

The safety lever is the only part that seems to be reblued.

I doubt the safety lever is a "reblue" because it was probably a new replacement when the gripsafety was eliminated. Hopefully it is numbered to the frame. Sideplates were mixed up during normal cleaning of several weapons cleaned at the same time. The sailors didn't really care as long as the pistol was put back together and was functional. It is what it is: a very decent old piece that served its country quite well for many years. Jim Cate

Many LPO8s and Navies had their barrels cut down or replaced to conform to the restrictions of the Versailles tready. THis one was counted as part of the Weimar mility allotment as indicated by the 1920 marking on chamber. TH

I don't think anyone has noticed, but the barrel seems to be a cut down FAT barrel, possibly from a 1904 Navy! The "ears" on the extractor seem wide, from a later Navy. Very interesting conglomeration of Navy parts.
