Please help with unit marking
I was just handed down my great grandfathers DWM Luger that he recovered in WW1. I have had pretty good luck tracking down most of the markings, however I haven't had much luck with the unit marking. 169.R.7.39 Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Norme. I've been having a great time tracking down the history of this Luger. I realize that finding more information about the specific regiment could be near impossible, but would anyone happen to know of good places to find more information?

The 169th was from the Duchy of Baden and garrisoned in Villingen; it was part of the XIV Army Corps. In 1914 and until March of 1915 it was part of the 29th Infantry Division and saw action in Alsace-Lorraine and later Artois. In March of 1915 the 169th was one of several Regiments to form the new 52nd Infantry Division. Actions from 1915 through 1918 were
1915 Artois 1916 Somme 1917 Alsace, Aisne and Champagne 1918 Champagne, Picardy, Aisne, Armentiers and Argonne |
