1918 dwm
Hello, I am looking for some guidance on this 1918 DWM. All numbers are matching, and as you can see the finish is worn with some pitting and some very small rust spots. The bore is pitted and and very dark. with almost no rifling. My question is about the stocks. They are original (stamped with the serial (02) on the inside). To me they look like they have been refinished. I would expect them to be less shiny on a pistol with this amount of matching wear everywhere else. I wanted some opinions before I did anything like refinish them myself. Thanks.

These have merely been refinished sometime after production using a shiny varnish. What needs to be done is to strip this varnish off and treat them with linseed oil or other non shiny protectant to restore the original look to them. These is a whole archive of material on the proper way to do this here on the site

We have a member, Hugh, that does wonders for grips by chasing the checkering. Consider having a pro do it for you.
