Post TLSS News

Thanks to all my clients and friends, especially John Dunkle for helping make TLSS a promising business. For the moment, it appears we have turned a corner with lots of work coming it. I am very grateful to all, especially the good Lord!

Thor,

I'm really happy for you. Someone that does the work you do should be swamped. It ought to continue.

I know you do other guns besides Lugers, but I've never heard of you doing any finishing other than bluing and strawing. I have an older ('75 I think) HiPower with the shiny black finish. I've been told it's a powder coat. Do you do that or know anybody who does? Is there an alternate finish that is similar to the original shiny black?

Thanks for any help you can give and, again, congratulations on our well deserved success.

Talent like Thor's needs to be stimulated ! Anyone out there with a great shooting gun that needs a face lift should send it in while they can.

I'm trying to get the pennies together to send in a nice "russian dipped" matching high polish AC41 P38 - the results will be stunning, I'm sure.

Thanks guys!!! The shiny black would probably be well simulated by a Modern hi polish salt blue like this pic! This is a post war P.38 that I polished up and salt blued. The color is just like ebony or Darth Vader's (Star Wars Bad Dude) Helmet! Powder coating is a modern finish for other items as well. My traffic engineer buddy told me that they powder coated some mast arms and poles for the traffic signals.

Powder coating is a poor excuse for a firearm finish. I used to manage the engineering department of a factory that manufactured traffic signal control enclosures... and we powder coated these cabinets upon request or by government specification, but the most durable finish we sold was polished marine grade aluminum.

It is really a baked on powdered enamel and is very fragile if subjected to rough handling. It scratches very easily and can't be properly touched up. It is only good for stationary objects... not working firearms.

If the gun were mine, I would have every bit of it sandblasted or polished off and have Thor blue it like a firearm should be...

just my $0.02

Thor, Thanks for the picture. That P-38 is beautiful (of course). Check your private messages for one from me.

John, Thanks for the advice. I emailed Cylinder and Slide since they seem to have a good reputation in general and the HiPower community in particular. They said it was black enamel paint, which might not even be as good as powder coating. Of course the reason this whole thing came up is because of what you said about it's lack of durability.

Thanks
