Post How do you value a shooter?

I have observed on several posts regarding shooters that the value placed on these items vary anywhere from $450.00 to $600.00. What determines the price of a good shooter? Is it possible for a 42 byf barrel and receiver assembly coupled with a 1936 s/42 frame assembly all 96% with good strawing and rifling be worth as much as say a mismatched 1936 s/42 96% with good strawing and rifling?

That's not easy to do. A shooter is basically defined by being anything but a collector. A shooter can be an all matching gun with a poor finish, an all matching with a good finish and and a bad bore, an all matching with a good finish and a good bore with the stock lug ground off, it can be very good in all areas listed above but an import, or it can be very good in all aspects but not matching, but a gun can have all the problems above but be a collector cause its a rare version. The prices are determined by supply & demand. Military models bring more than commercials in both categories, pre military bring more than military unless its a rare version. Generally a collector/drooler brings 2-3 times more than a shooter. $400 to $600 is the rule for a shooter depending on all the factors above. I'm sure there are other opinions, listen to them all.
