WTB REPRO Artillery Rear Sight Assy

I just came across a Artillery barrel assy in poor condition and am looking to put a shooter together . I havn't gooten it yet so who knows how bad the bore really is ?

I believe I have two rear toggles and a rear sight for an artillery.

Not sure I'd be comfortable firing this set-up. How is the bore?

Up top, he mentioned that he didn't know but would find out when it arrives. So...we're all waiting.

It could go either way. the amount of overall rust on the outside is truly frightening, I agree. It might clean up to be a little better, but the damage looks bad in the pics. However, the shot of the underside of the extension shows rust on the rails, but not so much on the breech block, etc. inside. We saw another posting of a rusty Luger not too long ago, which yielded internals that were basically intact. So there is a glimmer of hope. The big question is the bore, so we must wait to see if/how much damage is in there after the pistol is delivered to Gungee's now hopelessly addicted hands!

I have done several like this..soak in oil, take it completely apart and use a round wire brush chucked into a drill. Get all the rust off. Inspect.

I have had a couple of guns that were dug up out of the ground and one was just as bad if not worse ; and after a very though clean up were in shooting condition --- "but" ugly though . It seems that internally they only rust so far as to fill up the clearance gaps and then kind of stop , and the outside is always the worse .

That's what I have found as well. I had to beat one apart with a hammer...good shooter now though!

I found a rear sight leaf without the slide in rough condition ; so I am still looking for the base , slide & spring

Looks like I need to back this sight business up as I'm getting PMs etc. wanting one. I thought I had a couple of them but have only found one so far. That which I'm able to lay hands on is a post 1917 without fine-tune adjustment. It is expertly made but lacks a serial number. It may be a 1930s Mauser made sight as it has, what could be, Farsi markings on the bottom.

I will check my tool box to see if I have another. If I do I will sell one of them for $200.

I got it in the mail this afternoon , and the verdict is in . The bore looks like it needs a good cleaning but is very strong and shootable ! The working surfaces internally all look good and the breech bolt looks fine too , as well as the extractor too .
It is misiing all the small parts , firing pin , spring & guide , recoil spring sturip , ejector , sear assy and of course the rear sight assy .
I do have a rear sight leaf with the fine tune , but no spring , slide or base .
I'm looking to fill it up with repro parts to finnish it off .

I'm thinking of using a EER Pistol Scope that I have that is very similar to the Thompson Center LOBO , only much smaller , about the size of my middle finger . It uses the same mounting system , recoil proof rail mount , the base of it would need to be modifies to fit the rear sight dovetail . The eye / sight picture alignment seems to be very critical to get a good sight picture . I don't know if would be legal to use a stock with this type of setup though ? Thoughts ?

Nope, not legal. The fine point here is that particular stocks, or their fairly accurate reproductions have been exempted from the no-stock rule, but only for the models of pistol which would originally have used that style. Navy stock with a Navy gun, Artie stock with an Artillery, and Carbine stock with a Carbine. Your stock looks closest in form to one for a Carbine, but apparently not close enough in form to be exempted--hence Dwight's "or any other Luger" comment on the other thread.

I'm not too sure what it is that your saying here , as I do not have a stock as of yet ? I was thinking of getting an REPRO Artillery stock / holster to use with this . But was not sure and actually doubted that it would be legal if I put the the little EER scope on the Artillery barrel assembly . I was mainly thinking of doing this as I am having trouble finding a REPO rear sight .

I saw, just a couple of days ago, a rear sight assembly mounted to a "sleeve" that looked like it would slip over a barrel...but I can't find it today. One might fit from one such as these http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replica-Germ...item19e3bc9a65, or perhaps there is a cast spare part available alone from the manufacturer, presuming you're after form, not originality.

I saw the one mounted on a sleeve sold on ebay for $158-- as I recall . I saw going to bid on it and actually fell asleep ! as the saying goes , "you snooze you louse" .
