Default Winchester WinClean 244 Powder

Has anyone had experience with Winchester WinClean 244 powder for 9 mm/115 gr. bullet? .357 mag./158 gr. bullet? My usual powder, Power Pistol, is not available and I'm looking for available options.

Karl,

Why isn't Power Pistol available to you; as several sources list it available and in stock.

I have never heard of the powder you listed:WinClean 244. Do you know its approximate burning rate?

Thanks!

Sieger,

Burn rate is similar to W 231. Here is the Hodgdon link:
https://shop.hodgdon.com/winchester/...r-winclean-244

Where is Power Pistol available?

Karl,

About 45 days ago, I checked my three usual sources for Power Pistol powder, and they all three had it in stock. As of yesterday, they all three were, indeed, out of stock!!!

Good luck to you!

Sieger,

Now the Win 244 is out of stock too. Until this shortage is over, I think that we are all going to get creative with our loads. Thank goodness I still have a decent supply of Blue Dot and Red Dot. Unfortunately, I passed on the opportunity to stock up on Goex black powder - now it's gone forever. Lesson learned: There is no such thing as too much gunpowder.

I am not familiar with Win244. I wonder if it is one of those clean burning powders like CFE Pistol. I mostly use that and Win231. I'm have an adequate supply of powder, projectes and primers...only because I have really slowed down my shooting and reloading activities for the last two years.

Karl,

If you check on the GunBroker site. there are two very good alternatives for sale at "reasonable" prices.

Ramshot's True Blue and Hodgdon's HS-6 are both listed for approximately $32.00 to $37.00 per pound. They also list Power Pistol, but at approximantly $85.00 per pound.

Respectfully,

Sieger

Sieger,

Thanks. I never thought of looking for powder on Gunbroker. For the time being, I plan to use Blue Dot when I run out of Power Pistol.

If it were me, and I had both Blue and Red Dot powders (which I keep a good supply of both), I would be more prone to use the Blue Dot for the 357Mag loads, and the Red Dot for the 9mm loads. Again, just my opinion.

As I type this, Powder Valley has Winchester 244 in stock in both 1 and 8 pounds. The 1 pound containers are $26.25 and 8 pounds is $184. They only have two 8 pound containers left.

Here's a burning rate chart that shows where Winchester 244 compares to other brands/powders...
