ED...this is a fantastic mock up of a gun carrying bear. The photos was SUPPOSED to be of a PPK police holster but it didn't work out as planned. I am still trying to figure out how to get photos uploaded on my desktop Apple computer. I cannot seem to break the code on how to move photos from the I-Photo site to the forum pages. Anybody out there able to help me? This has been an ongoing effort for about 8 yrs for me without any luck

I think the difficulty is that you don't have the photos on your computer?

If on your computer, then you just navigate to where they are and pick one at a time.

if they are stored somewhere else (I know nothing about macs and don't attempt to) - if stored somewhere else, then I don't think it can upload them.

If you want to upload a photo from an internet storage location you must capture the URL for the exact photo (not the album) and insert the URL in the field I have painted yellow in the "Manage Attachments" screen shown below.

Then just click the appropriate "Upload" button shown by the other red arrow.

Simple no matter what type of computer you are using.

John:

Greatly appreciate the info and I will try it. It has been a long haul for me to post pictures with my Apple computer and any help is great to have.

Herman,

Putting in a URL will not preserve the pics on our site because they are still vulnerable to being moved--making the URL useless--or the demise of that other site.

Here's how I would do it: When you have the pic displayed on your screen, right-click on it to bring up a dialog box. One of the choices in the box will be "Save image as", so click that. This will pop up a window that lets you choose what folder on your computer it will be filed in. You may store it in any folder listed on the file system tree, or create a new folder and name it anything you wish. Just keep track of where you file the pic, and you'll be able to find it later, when you're uploading via the "browse" option on our site's "manage attachments".

I'm PC, but this will probably work for Mac, too. I don't know if you'll need a Mac guy to translate the specifics, so to speak. But this is the easiest way to get the pics onto your hard drive for transfer to a post or gallery here.

David,

The method I have shown does not just display the photo from the origin website, it actually uploads a copy of the photo as an attachment so it is permanently part of Lugerforum.com.

The method you have described: Basically placing the photo URL between [IMG] & [/IMG] tags would lose the image from the positing if the origin website goes away or changes its file structure.

Thanks, John, now I understand how our software works for this method. My misconception is cured!

NO, this isn't what David said

he said - he would copy to his hard drive and upload to manage attachments

unless it was changed, then he never said anything about using the image icon???

Ed, this is the part of David's post I was addressing. His statement is correct. Linking external photos versus uploading to the forum by any means.

Using the image icon to post a photo simply places the URL to the photo inside of the [IMG] and [/IMG] tags and the photo will only remain on display in that post as long as no one changes the URL or location that is linked.

Using the Upload from a URL feature in the Advanced/manage attachments screen uploads a copy to the forum versus just linking to the external file.

He understood what I was trying to tell him.
