Default Commercial DWM with unusual extractor

Brain Trust, it's been a long time since I've come across a decent Luger. This one is a 30 Luger, still working on its exact ID. Take a look at the toggle/extractor. Is this some kind of gunsmith fix or have I stumbled across something unusual? Serial Number 5253, late 20's production?

Does it otherwise function normally? It looks odd, but I don’t think it looks Ugly. Is the breech block…layered? with the screws holding the top bit in place? Please take the toggle train out and take more pictures of possible.

Looks like the extractor was blown out of the breech block, taking the edges with it. Someone then 'fixed' the damage by screwing in fillers.

This is neither a good, nor a safe repair. That breech block should be scrapped and replaced.

I agree with Vlim 100%... especially the last two sentences. I have two Alphabet Commercial Lugers in the "m" block, one earlier and one later than yours. Both have normal breech blocks.

Yup, I agree. What they said. An attempt to fix this.....When the ears of the extractor are forced up due to a hot load perhaps and breaks away the metal from the top of the breech block.

Thanks for sharing !

That is one hilarious modification!
it's just not that hard or expensive to replace the part.

But, I do love it !

It does show a certain ingenuity and imagination, and a bit of skill. I've had a blown-out extractor/breechblock as well, but this mod never even occurred to me...
