Default Syracuse NY Gun Show

Happy Monday, everyone,

I attended the Syracuse Gun Show this weekend, approx. 800 tables in the Center of Progress Building at the NYS Fairgrounds.

Lots of interesting firearms (someone had a Lahti 20mm on display, like the one re-welded and restored to function on "Sons of Guns" last season), but here's the Luger report. I'll start posting today and keep adding until I get all pics up for ya.

These pics and info are all I have, but I might be able to answer a question or two. I definitely brought back more of this show's experience to share...

First Parabellum encountered was a Persian, asking $4700, which seemed reasonable.

Default byf 41 #9196 w/holster...

..priced $950

The grips, proofs, and numbers on this one have suffered, as has the holster, which has a lid and pull up strap repaired with rivets.

As has the front sight...Is that a P-38 sight???

Thanks for the report! Feel free to add anything else about the Syracuse show...Food on site, fast food restaurants nearby, magazine [both kinds] vendors in attendance, parking availability & charges, special displays, who sponsored the event...You get the idea...

I want to go, but I have to factor in expenses...

How about parts vendors...I'm always looking for parts suppliers, particularly 'parts kits' from stripped handguns, or rifles...Military mostly, although I do get an occasional S&W that needs work...

Any show 'specials'???

As to the holster. This is a Norwegian conversion, which was once set up to be used with GI web gear, (see plugged holes behind the belt loops). As such, the rivet repair for the pullup strap is probably also period to this serve as well.

This is an accepted variation for some holster collectors.

Beats me..it's not original, for sure.

Show was put on by the New York State Arms Collectors Association, Inc. $6 bucks entry--$5 for us geezers, re-entry with hand stamp, so smokers rejoice. $15 for onsite NCIS check--required for all gun purchases.

A cafe serving dogs, burgers and cola was in one of the side rooms, a permanent installation with booths and tables.

Right on the NW end of Syracuse, so moments from just about any food prepared at any speed. If you like the Dinosaur Bar-B-Q, you're in luck!

I was disappointed that the 5-round commercial mags for the M1 Carbine are now $40 ea., more than double what a 15-rounder would set you back--but the latter are now banned in NYS, so we're stuck with 5 and 10 round mags. I estimate a handful of purveyors of old publications were there, along with vintage and historical book sellers.

Free parking on fairgrounds, the usual gamble looking for a close space. Had to dodge a few livestock trailers, as there was a bovine event of some sort in the next big building; also a craft fair somewhere there...

Not sure what a special display would be. I didn't notice anything in particular that would make the big news on NBC... AR-15 "Dealers Only" table? An author whose name I didn't take note of, signing his book? The Lahti 20mm seemed pretty special to me!

Quite a few parts vendors, I noticed--the tables with sectioned off bins and containers of parts stripped from old guns. Mainly Military long guns, I'd say. Lots of old Winchesters... I passed on a beat up Erma La-22 offered at $495! Thompson Center Contender parts, a couple of its empty frames... I didn't notice any obvious kits for anything, but could have missed some.

To my limited gun show experience, a bit of everything for everybody was available. Extranea included the ubiquitous knife dealers, vintage and new metal sign sellers, hats and clothing, gun bluing/finishing, gun safes, militaria, Nazi collectibles, a couple tables with flea market grade stuff... Ammo prices coming down a bit, I think... 9mm FMJ $20/50

I'll do my best to answer any more questions. No comments from anyone about the Persian Artillery?

Like someone displaying a collection but the items are not for sale. A 'show' used to be for collectors to display their collections. Somewhere/how it devolved into a flea market.

[QUOTE=sheepherder;253316]Like someone displaying a collection but the items are not for sale. /QUOTE]

Ah, yes, I recall one such table, basically with half a dozen pistols under glass, all marked not for sale. (I can't for the life of me remember what they were, but the selection was diverse IIRC.) Closest to that were skimpily laden tables with old guys and maybe their wives...looked like they were more showing their collections than hawking merchandise. But, as you suspect, they were a distinct minority.
