holster or Blood rust on my P08??

I have a 1940 42 code P08

Looking at the muzzle barrel, there was light pitting and blue discoloration

would this be from the holster sucking moisture or blood??

I have a HS Military that I'm sure from the rust pattern was due to blood. Thanks

It is possible, although many times people call it blood pitting and it was just damp. In the sense that some folks will say it will rust them almost immediately and a few folks ave tested it with human blood and said that it didn't rust immediately (he was a key figure in the Japanese collectors association), he said that he used a number of blued objects - barrels, parts etc and he smeared blood from them samples taken from diabetes testing (so imagine it was spread over many days) and he left it on for like a week or two.
Another collector did it with deer blood and results were about the same, eventual staining and if long enough pitting.

There are no pictures, and we'd love to see them, close up and full side views.

My feeling is that if blood it was because it was left on for possibly days or longer in the holster. Especially where you state, it sounds like normal holster wear, but pictures would help..

No way to know what caused any particular example of pitting or discoloration.
What difference would it make?

When I see a sellers description say "blood pitting", I think it is just a colorful way to make a pitted gun sound more appealing.

don't worry I', not planing on selling my 1940 luger anytime soon

It is all matching and did come with a holster that may not not be matching the pistol

hell it maybe is just piss
