No, not really...until you get to the Model 1929 Swiss, and then the differences are largely cosmetic.

Ron - the Swiss used DWM parts for quite a long time to assemble their Lugers, right? When did they start making their own?

If you are talking about Swiss, I would guess it would be a very early 1900 with an unrelieved frame and flat button magazine. Prototype and pre-production pieces are out of the question for anyone other than millionaires.

Not many variations, just 1900 DWM military and commercial, 1906 DWM military and commercial, and the two produced by the Swiss - the Model 1906 Bern and the Model 1929 Bern

Not exactly. DWM produced the Swiss Lugers up until WWI. The Swiss started making their own in 1918.

Eric,
We are still talking Swiss here. The prototypes were made in 1898 and the pre-production in 1899.

Ron & Eric, I believe that you forgot to include the M1906 Swiss Police with the "cross in shield" logo and the 9mm Bern Police in your list. TH

Thanks! The "cross in shield" wasn't a police issue, it remained army but just reflected a change in the national emblem (I would have to look up the date and official order). The 9mm Bern Police is a nifty variation, one of the last DWM production with the "lazy" Crown/N proof.

i cannot find informacions on bern police lugers. is this more rare?
