T 14 Nambu - three caliber set, 7,65mm, 9mm, 11.35mm
I have posted the 7,65mm conversion before and perhaps also the 9mm modified luger barrels fit to a modified T14 upper receiver.
Both the 7,65mm and 9mm luger will feed from the magazine and with the correct ammo, and function in the modifed T14. John Sabato made a comment that perhaps one could not make a .45acp T 14. I took this as a friendly challenge. And here is the result. The .45 barrel is one of Eugene's(Lugerman) barrels from his early .45 work. You have seen them on my .45 luger conversion and on Ed Tinkers two .45 lugers that Eugene finished for him. The bolt face required opening up for the larger diameter of the .45 round, just as it does in the luger conversion. I decided to chamber this one in .45acp so I could use mid range match 185gr .45 acp ammo, as it is not as hot as the ball round. I fired this conversion yesterday, a whopping 3 times, as it is cold and it is a single shot pistol. The .45 is too big, of course, to feed through the Nambu magazine. Takes the shooter to hold the bolt back and a "loader" to drop the shell into the breech. Time consuming and cumbersome. But, it shoots like a dream; not too much recoil - in fact very pleasant to shoot. I know many will say the T 14 is not "strong" enough, but if one takes the time to study the pressures and energy generated by this mid range round, one finds it actually well below the 9mm luger and just above the original 9mm nambu round. Won't see a lot of use, a conversation piece, and just to show it can be done. Pictures show the .45acp T 14 , with a 9mm and 7,65mm upper above; and several views of the .45acp conversion. Why? Obviously I don't have enough to do!

Don are you going to bring this to Louisville? I’m interested in looking it over.

Drive to Wytheville and you can ride with me and save some airfare. I’m only two hours or so from you, remember.

I guess it was only a matter of time, and this will award you a virtual Medal of Honor for bravery behind the trigger!

And Cervantes could write a novel about the quest.

I'd love to have a Nambu with a 7.65x21mm barrel, but don't have the skills to do the necessary work.

My thoughts exactly... Just curious? How many times has the .45 version been fired? and what kind of proof loads have you used? How does the .45 compare with the specs of the original 8mm cartridge? More pressure or less at cartridge detonation? BTW, the machine work looks impeccable!

John,
I addressed your questions in the initial post. The pressure of the .45acp is about 65% of that of the 9mm p, and so is the energy. Having converted and fired the 9mmP version, I feel quite "comfortable" with the much lower pressure and energy of the .45. The SAAMI pressure for the 9mm P is 35K psi and for the 45 only 24K psi. I consider the 9mm P version sufficient "proofing" of the concept given the much lower pressure and energy of the .45. Historically both the Indonesians and Koreans(North IIRC) converted and used the Nambu in 9mm P for a short time after WWII. I can find no pressure measurements for the original 8mm Nambu round. But it's energy can be determined from wt x velocity. Just a pedantic note, cartridges do not "detonate", smokless powder burns at a rapid rate; maximum pressure is reached if/when all the powder burns before the bullet exits the barrel. What is measured and specified is "peak" pressure, measured at or near the chamber, at least that is my understanding from what I have read.

Upper and barrel
Just came across this,
Nice to know someone else is playing around. I just happen to have an extra Nambu Upper and some miss. parts laying around, from restoration I did last year. And I have some extra 45 Barrels. Anyone cares for it? Let me know I will not put it together, that for Don to do, he clearly has more time then I do. ;0)
